Homecoming events set
SHERBURN — Don’t forget hamburger night at the Sherburn American Legion. Grilled burgers will be served from 6-8 p.m. All are welcome.

A CREST “Lunch and Learn” event featuring the versatile pumpkin will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Senior Citizens Center in Sherburn. Following the presentation, a lunch of vegetable beef stew, sandwich and pumpkin dessert will be served. Donations for the meal are welcome. Everyone is invited.

A meeting for parents of Martin County West juniors will be held at 7 p.m. tonight in the JH/SH cafeteria in Sherburn to discuss prom and the after-prom party. This is an organizational meeting and committees will be developed, so all junior class parents are urged to attend.

Martin County West will be busy with homecoming activities all this week. Crowning of the king and queen will take place at the all-school pep fest at 2 p.m. Friday on the football field. Queen candidates are Isabella Bicknase, Logan Kosbab, Payton Leiding, Emily Matejka and Maiah Schofield. King candidates are Payton Anderson, Miles Fitzgerald, Wyatt Geistfeld, Carson O’Connor and Nathan Simmonds. There is also a parade on Friday afternoon, and then the football game that evening against Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial at 7 p.m. Come out and support the Mavericks.

The annual senior class chili feed will be held Friday night in the high school cafeteria in Sherburn, beginning at 4 p.m. and continuing through halftime of the football game. There will be chili or chicken noodle soup, crackers, cinnamon roll and beverages. Tickets may be purchased in advance from any senior class member, or they will be available at the door. Cost is $7 for adults, $5 for those in grade 6 and younger. Proceeds go toward the senior class trip to Washington, D.C.

The Friendship Club at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn is planning a special event on Monday at the church. Marianne Hagen will speak about growing up in post-World War II Germany. She has an interesting story to share, and they hope people will join them for her talk, which begins at 1:30 p.m. Bring your friends. There will be coffee, goodies and visiting after the program.

The Regional Worship Center in Sherburn serves breakfast each Monday morning from 7-9 a.m. They serve pancakes, eggs and coffee. Cost is a donation. All are invited.

Then on Tuesday morning you can go for coffee at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Sherburn, where the Tuesday coffee hours for October are being held. Times are 8:30-10 a.m. Come for coffee, delicious baked treats and fellowship.

Congratulations and thank you to Ken Kissner for 40 years of teaching the firearm safety classes in our community. He was recently recognized and presented an award by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources for his many years of volunteering. Mr. Kissner taught many of our sons, daughters and local students about gun safety, and we are so very grateful for his dedication and his many volunteer hours.
