MCW graduation set for Sunday afternoon

SHERBURN — The last day of school for all Martin County West students is Friday. There will be an awards day program 1:30 p.m. Friday in the gymnasium at the high school in Sherburn. The program will recognize students who have qualified for awards and scholarships throughout the year with an emphasis on the MCW senior class on their last day of high school. Parents and community members are welcome to attend this program.

Graduation ceremony for the MCW class of 2019 will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the high school gym in Sherburn. There will be reserved seating on the floor for parents and siblings of the graduates. The bleachers will be available for other family members and those in general attendance.

Sherburn’s Friendship Club is carpooling to Algona, Iowa on Monday. They will meet 9:30 a.m. that day at St. John’s Lutheran Church, then stop for lunch 11 a.m. at the Pizza Ranch in Algona before touring the Prisoner of War museum and nativity. There is a $3 cost for the museum tour. If you’re interested in going, please sign up at St. John’s Church or call (507) 764-5312. Anyone from the community is welcome to join them for the day.

Sherburn Civic and Commerce Club will meet 6 p.m. Tuesday at Temperance Lake Ridge in Sherburn. New members are always invited to attend these meetings.

If you have not already done so, please get your community-wide survey filled out online or sent in regarding your ideas or wishes about how to improve operational efficiencies and updates to the Martin County West School facilities. These surveys are due by Friday. Your feedback is important to school personnel and board members for future decisions they may have to make. If you would like an additional copy of the survey or did not receive one, please call Jessica Maday at (507) 764-2330, or stop in at the MCW Central Office in Sherburn.

“Park Play” for children, ages four through sixth grade, will be held each Tuesday beginning June 4 in Trimont, each Wednesday beginning June 5 in Welcome, and each Thursday beginning June 6 in Sherburn. The fee for the four-week program is $10 per child or you may pay $3 per child/per session, with a $25 limit per family.

Red Cross bloodmobile will be in Sherburn from 1-7 p.m. June 10 at the Regional Worship Center (across from Kum & Go). Drop-ins are always welcome but if you would like to schedule an appointment, please call Dorothy at (507) 764-2107. Every two seconds someone in this country needs blood, so if you are able to give, please be that person who steps up to donate.

If you’re interested in having a rummage sale during the city-wide rummage sales for June 13-15, please bring in or mail your list with the dates, times, address and items for sale along with $10 to the Martin County Star, Box 820, Sherburn, MN 56171 before June 11. These dates are during Sherburn’s Holiday Festival.

The annual Martin County Relay for Life survivor celebration supper will be held 5-7:30 p.m. June 11 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Fairmont. If you’re a cancer survivor and are able to attend, please RSVP before May 30 by calling or texting Torie at (507) 399-3667.

Volunteers are needed for Ruby’s Pantry food distribution in Sherburn from 6-7:30 p.m. the third Monday of each month. The distribution center will be the Regional Worship Center. If you would like to become a volunteer for this project, please fill out an application online at www.rubyspantry.org/volunteer-application.

Active Aging programs through Catholic Charities of Southern Minnesota will be providing a “Powerful Tools for Caregivers” workshop at Temperance Lake Ridge Senior Living in Sherburn beginning June 18 and running six consecutive weeks until July 23. This six-week program is free of charge and open to any caregiver in the area. Caregivers may be someone who lives with a family member who needs constant care, or they may be a neighbor or friend who regularly checks in on someone, or a family member who oversees financial or business matters. All are welcome. Space is limited so please register before June 11 by calling Diane Madsen at Catholic Charities (507) 459-0426.
