Area roundup: Red Bulls split in Jackson
WRESTLING
JACKSON – The Martin County Area Red Bulls went 1-1 during their triangular event at Jackson County Central on Friday night, defeating Tracy-Milroy-Balaton-Westbrook-Walnut Grove, 35-31, and falling to the aforementioned Huskies, 50-21.
Pierce Rohman (145 lbs) earned two victories on the night, a TF win over TMB/WWG’s David Schuh and a decision against JCC’s Kyler Thier (8-2). Kaedin Lange (172 lbs) joined Pierce with a sweep of his competition after a TF over Mavrick Snyder from TMB/WWG and a pin against JCC’s Hayden Schultz. Aaron Becker (215 lbs) and David Miller (285 lbs) each recorded victories in their TMB/WWG matchup, beating Lawton Verlinde and Jack Willhite, before picking up forfeit wins against JCC.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
NORTH UNION 54, GHV 42
ARMSTRONG – Ainsley Ulrich’s 25-point scoring performance powered the North Union girls basketball team to a 54-42 victory over Garner Hayfield Ventura on Friday night in Armstrong.
Ulrich drilled four outside shots while grabbing nine rebounds and three steals. Maisey Bierstedt had a 16-point and 11-rebound double-double. The Warriors grabbed 42 rebounds as a team.
North Union (13-7) will play Lake Mills Saturday at 6:15 p.m.
BOYS BASKETBALL
GHV 81, NORTH UNION 73
ARMSTRONG – Garner Hayfield Ventura out paced North Union in overtime on Friday night, defeating the Warriors 81-73 Friday night in Armstrong.
Khael Jones recorded 29 points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals to stuff the stat sheet. Drew Henderson drilled seven 3-pointers to charge his 23-point performance. Greyson Colegrove added 11 points and eight rebounds.
North Union (11-9) will play Lake Mills Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
