GYMNASTICS
MCA: 138.25, PIPESTONE: 131.35
FAIRMONT – Lillie Schultz, Jadyn Montgomery and Nola Thedens finished first, third and fifth in All-Around to propel Martin County Area gymnastics to a 138.25-131.35 victory over Pipestone on Thursday night at the Fairmont Armory.
Schultz’s first-place finishes on floor, bars and vault gave her a final score of 36.6. Montgomery’s 9.05 on floor and 8.9 on vault gave her a 34.775. Thedens notched an 8.825 on vault to spring her 33.15. Ellie Perkins and Avery Steuber scored an 8 on bars. Perkins recorded an 8.7 on the floor.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
FAIRMONT: 58, ST. JAMES: 50
FAIRMONT – The Cardinals overcame St. James 58-50 in a conference game Thursday to extend their win streak to 12.
Brylee Miller exploded with a 31 point, 10 rebound double-double that also included six steals. Bria Williamson poured on 10 points of her own, while Makenzie Lowry contributed 4 points and 6 rebounds.
The Cardinals (20-1) have their next game Friday against Granada-Huntley-East Chain at 7 p.m. in Martin Luther High School.
BOYS BASKETBALL
FAIRMONT: 81, ST. JAMES: 71
FAIRMONT – The Cardinals notched their 10th straight win by edging out St. James 81-71 in a conference matchup Thursday.
Joe Hackett led the team with 21 points. Logan Junkermeier was right behind him with a 16 point, 15 rebound double-double. Joe Long poured on 11 points, while Reed Johnson added in 10 points and 7 rebounds.
The Cardinals (15-2) have their next matchup Friday on the road against New Ulm at New Ulm High School.
NICOLLET: 74, GHEC/T/ML: 60
GRANADA – The Granada Huntley East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther boys basketball team fell to Nicollet 74-60 in Granada on Thursday night.
Eli Jensen notched five 3-pointers to fuel his 24 point scoring effort. Brody Grathwohl had nine points and five steals. Lane Kruse and Vaugh Thompson each scored six.
GHEC/T/ML (4-15) will play Martin County West this Saturday at 3 p.m.
