FAIRMONT – The Martin County Red Bulls fell to St. Peter and Worthington during Thursday night’s Red Bull Triangular held in the Fairmont High School gymnasium. After a 53-24 defeat to the Saints opened the evening, the Red Bulls were a handful of matches away from completing an impressive comeback against Worthington, but ultimately dropped 35-33.

St. Peter began the match by winning six of the first seven weight classes; four victories came via pin. Pierce Roham (133 lb) was the lone Martin County victory over that stretch, taking care of Manual Gomez with an effortless first-round win.

Brock Stauffer (152 lb) got things going again for the Red Bulls, beginning a surge of victories for head coach Adam Williamson’s team that cut the match deficit to nine points. After a commanding 11-0 lead over Sam Weber entered in the second round, it was a Stauffer double leg takedown that earned the eventual pin by the junior.

Torrey Paplow (160 lb) then faced off against the No. 6 wrestler in the weight class, Deontre Torres. The two felt each other out during the first period, but a late takedown from Paplow gave him the 4-3 edge heading into period two. Paplow finished things off by flipping Torres on his back, securing the leverage and earning the pin.

The hot streak continued with an immediate pin from Kaedin Lange (172 lb) over Dalton Voss. Lange secured the win after one immediate take-down on the far side of the mat.

St. Peter rallied from the Red Bull comeback, winning its final three weight class pairings to put the finishing touches on a 53-24 victory.

Rohman again kicked things off for the Red Bulls during the second match versus Worthington, taking down Nahom Legesse via pin three minutes into the contest. Cooper Kolander kept things going after grinding out a 5-4 decision win over Christopher Santiago.

Paplow and Lange secured another pin during the initial two minutes of their matches, defeating Ethan Nixon and Arthur Htoo to bring the Red Bulls’ deficit to 25-21. However, even with an Aaron Becker (215 lb) victory over Austin Gruis and Worthington forfeiting the 285 lb weight class, it was the Trojans coming out on top 35-33.

The Martin County Red Bulls will continue its season this Saturday, traveling to Marshall to partake in the Big South Conference Tournament held at Southern Minnesota State University.
