AREA ROUNDUP: Benck reaches 1,000 career points against Blackjacks

GIRLS BASKETBALL
DB 63, GHEC/T/ML 61
MARSHALL – The Granada Huntley East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther girls basketball team fell to Dawson Boyd, 63-61, on Tuesday afternoon at the Southwest Minnesota State University campus.
Keira Benck tallied 31 points, putting the senior in elite company as she eclipsed 1,000 career points during her time as a Jaguar. Londyn Bowers and Addison Nowicki each chipped in 11 points, respectively.
The Jaguars move to 4-4 on the season.
NRHEG 58, Fairmont 48
LAKE CRYSTAL – The Fairmont girls basketball team suffered its first loss of the season with a 58-48 defeat to New Richland-H-E-G on Tuesday night.
Brylee Miller had 20 points and three steals. Bria Williamson had 11 points after knocking down a pair of outside shots.
Fairmont (8-1) will play Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City this Saturday beginning at 2:15 p.m.
Windom Area 77, MCW 43
WINDOM – The Martin County West girls basketball team fell to Windom Area, 77-43, on Tuesday afternoon at the Windom Area High School.
Maddie Carlson led the way with 11 points. Bailey Larson and Mirta Garcia chipped in eight points each.
The Mavericks move to 5-5 on the season.
YOUTH AREA HOCKEY
FAIRMONT – The Fairmont Bantam A hockey team fell to Luverne, 11-3, this past Saturday at Martin County Arena. Luverne outshot Fairmont 39 to 23. Fairmont goals came from Ryder Thate, assisted by Carter Spitzer and Kane Wohlhuter and Bennett Draper, both assisted by Logan Droegemueller.
The Cardinals will play Marshall this Saturday at the Martin County Arena, beginning at 5:45 p.m.
