Cardinals fall to Saints in regular season finale
ST PETER – The Fairmont High School football team fell to St. Peter on Wednesday night, 21-8, to finish its regular season with a 4-4 record. Despite the two-score loss, the Cardinals were outgained by just 17 yards, 205 to 188. The Saints were on top 21-0 with five minutes remaining in the fourth quarter before the Fairmont offense was able to draw up some late-game production. Two plays into the drive that started on the 34-yard line, quarterback Joe Long found Travon Harvey for a 44-yard touchdown reception to put the Cardinals on the board. Long then completed the two-point conversion the very next play, finding Vincent Schultz in the back of the endzone to make it a 13-point game.
Running back Ty Tumbleson led all rushers with 62 yards on 11 carries. Long threw for 96 yards on nine completions. Harvey raked in 61 yards on three receptions.
Fairmont will play this Tuesday on the road against the Tri-City Titans in the first round of the Section 3AAA Football bracket. Kickoff is set to begin at 7 p.m.
