SPRING TENNIS

FAIRMONT 5, PIPESTONE 1

PIPESTONE – The Fairmont Cardinals beat Pipestone 5-1 in a Big South Conference matchup Friday

The Cardinals went 3-0 in singles competition, with Anthony Stegge beating Baptiste Philippon 6-1, 6-1, Tyler Slama besting Matthew Swenson 6-0, 6-0, and Simone Castro beating Mikah Weets 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles play the Cardinals went 2-1, winning their second and third matches. Oliver Thedens and Lilly Ortega beat Joel Cardenas and Avery Gutierrez 6-0, 6-0, then Jonah Vetter and Aiden Mustchler bested Austin Jorgenson and Charles Haak 6-2, 6-1.

Fairmont’s next matchup is against Litchfield Monday 5 p.m. at home.

BASEBALL

FAIRMONT 5, WINDOM 1

WINDOM – The Fairmont Cardinals won against Windom 5-1 in a Big South Conference game Friday

Leading the Cardinals was Joe Long, going 1-1 with two RBI’s. Luke Haefner went 1-3 with one RBI. Joseph Crissinger went 1-4 with one RBI while also giving up no runs, one hit, and dealing two strikeouts in five innings of work.

Fairmont (9-1) has their next contest at home against Tri-City United Monday at 5:30 p.m.

FAIRMONT – In a nine-way invitational, Fairmont and Blue Earth Area finished second and third respectively.

Individually for Fairmont, Katherine Zelaya finished third with a 91, while Leslie Zarling finished eighth with a 97.

Both teams will compete next at the Big South Division event at Jackson County Central Monday at 2 p.m.

FAIRMONT – In a fourteen-way invitational, Blue Earth, Fairmont, and North Union finished fifth, eleventh, and twelfth respectively.

Individually for Fairmont, Hudson McKean finished 32nd with an 87, while Macklain Anderson finished 38th with a 89.

Fairmont and Blue Earth Area’s next meet is at the Big South Division event Monday, 2 p.m. at the Pipestone Country Club.

SOFTBALL

MARTIN COUNTY WEST 12, MADELIA 0. MARTIN COUNTY WEST 13, MADELIA 3.

SEARLES – In a Valley Conference doubleheader, Martin County West (MCW) beat Madelia 12-0 and 13-3.

In game one Maddie Carlson had two hits with a home run and four RBI and threw eleven strikeouts, giving up one hit and no runs. Emily Schettler had one hit and three RBI, while Courtney Anderson had three hits, a homerun, and two RBI.

In game two Courtney Anderson had two hits, two RBI, and four runs scored. Emily Schettler, Lillie Schultz, and Maddie Carlson all had two RBI.

MCW (8-3) has a triangular next, playing Adrian-Ellsworth and Hayfield Saturday starting 10 a.m. at the Fox Lake Area Sports Complex in Welcome.
