Cardinal boys reach the podium, take 3rd in Class A
FAIRMONT – With the dust settling on the 69th Sentinel Relays, the Fairmont Cardinals boys did enough to bring home the bronze Friday.
Ultimately, Windom claimed the gold with a score of 128 to Fairmont’s 119 in the Class A.
“We have the unique opportunity to have our JV compete against the single A schools at this meet,” said Fairmont head coach Jesse Walters. “It’s really good to see them in the top half of the overall team scores there, both well for your future, knowing that JV kids can compete against varsity kids.”
Martin County West’s Bear Kosbab found the gold medal in the 200-meter after posting a time of 23.26.
Fairmont claimed a pair of medals when Ethan Pockrus claimed gold while putting up a 17.92, and teammate Braydon Lindsay claimed the silver with a time of 18.30 both times were personal bests for the athletes.
North Union claimed the top two slots in the 300-meter hurdles when Greyson Colegrove posted a time setting a PR of 45.42, while teammate Carson Crouch found his way to the silver posting a time of 46.89 and setting a PR. Fairmont claimed the bronze when Lindsay set a new PR with a time of 47.39.
Martin County West claimed the gold in the 4×100 thanks to a time of 46.79 posted by Josh Roben, Lixon Forsberg, Kale Larson and Kosbab. Fairmont was right behind MCW, claiming the silver when the team of Cole Brockman, Tytan Tumbleson, Jaron Shutz and Seth Siebring posted a time of 47.69. North Union took third when Jackson Hutchison, Colegrove, Gabe Whaley and Carson Crouch ran a 47.85.
The team of Kade Madden, Jackson Hutchinson, Cooper Hoye and Gabe Whaley took the gold in the 4×200 with a time of 1:41.55, while Fairmont’s team of Seth Siebring, Jase Meade, Travohn Harvey and Ethan Siebring took the silver (1:41.64). MCW claimed the bronze with the team of Bentley Muller, Bradyn Thate, Mason Menssen and Josh Roben (1:45.59).
North Union took home the bronze medal in the 4×800 after the team of Donnie Stevens, Colin Kruse, Drake Nelsen and Aiden Bower posted a time of 9:50.35.
North Union claimed the silver medal in the 1,600-meter medley after posting a time of 4:08 thanks to Cooper Hoye, Max Merrill, Aiden Bauer and Colin Kruse.
Benet Mathaison set a PR and claimed the bronze in the discus for Fairmont after a throw of 127 feet, 2 inches.
Devin Hanson brought home the gold for Fairmont in the pole vault after clearing 9 feet, 6 inches, and teammate Axel Chapman claimed the silver by clearing 9 feet.
The triple jump held another bronze medal for the Cardinals after Carmyne Hecht cleared 35 feet, 6.5 inches setting a new PR.
The Cardinals’ next meet is the True Team meet at 3 p.m. Tuesday. BEA heads to USC at 3 p.m. Tuesday. North Union’s next meet is at 4:30 p.m. at West Hancock.
