Fairmont girls bring home Class A bronze

FAIRMONT – The Fairmont Cardinals claimed the bronze in the Class A girls division at the 69th annual Sentinel Relays Friday night.

Londyn Bowers brought home the gold for the Granada-Huntley East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther Jaguars in the 100-meter after laying down a solid time of 13.34.

“It’s a great experience for our kids,” GHEC/T/ML head coach Alex Roorda said. “There’s been a buzz around our school kind of all week about it. It’s something that kids really look forward to, they want to put on their best running. In front of what feels like a home crowd for us since you know, we know a lot of a bunch of kids and schools.”

Bowers doubled down in the 200-meter dash again, claiming gold this time, posting a 27.55.

Fairmont’s Lianna Weber quickly claimed gold in the 100-meter hurdles, posting an 18.82. North Union’s Cloey Anderson claimed the silver for her team with a time of 19.52.

The team of Lianna Weber, Emelia Klanderud, Bella Schroeder and Alexis Fuller claimed the silver for Fairmont in the 4×100 with a time of 55.26.

“I’ve been doing pretty good. I put a lot of work in in the offseason,” said Alexis Fuller. “I ran the 4×2, I had a pretty good time for that, and then the medley, I did pretty well too.”

North Union added to the tally when the team of Cloey Anderson, Peyton Jenkins, Brylie Deim, and Adeline Kollsach posted a 55.44 for the silver medal.

Fairmont found the podium yet again, this time in the 4×200, taking home silver thanks to a 1:54.14 by Alexis Fuller, Ellie Perkins, Madi Thompson, and Klanderud. The Jaguars claimed the silver (2:00.43) thanks to the team of Ashley Singleton, Norah Chase, Cecilia Nowicki and Bowers.

North Union brought home silver in the 4×400, posting a time of 4:39.52 courtesy of Alexis Cummins, Alyssa Welbig, Jennaya Bauer and Peyton Jenkins.

North Union brought home the gold medal in the 4×800 when Jennaya Bauer, Alyssa Welbig, Jacey Welbig and Alexis Cummins posted an 11:11.44.

North Union secured the silver medal when Cloey Anderson, Adeline Kollasch, Peyton Jenkins and Alexis Cummins ran a solid 4:54.84.

Clearing 4 feet, 6 inches, MCW’s Ava Thate took home the bronze medal in the high jump.

Marley Perkis claimed a bronze medal while setting a PR in the pole vault, clearing 7 feet, 6 inches.

“The key to having a good track team, especially as we go farther here into True Team section coming up here is having good depth in every event,” said Fairmont head coach Jesse Walters. “So anytime at the center relays that you can have your JV team compete. Well, that’s a good indicator that you’re going to have some success moving forward through True Team.”

The Cardinals next meet is the True Team meet at 3 p.m. Tuesday. BEA heads to USC at 3 p.m. Tuesday. North Unions’ next meet is at 4:30 p.m. at West Hancock.
