Area roundup: St. Peter shuts down Fairmont 7-1
BOYS SOCCER
ST. PETER 7, FAIRMONT 1
ST. PETER – The Fairmont Cardinals fell to the St. Peter Saints 7-1 in a Big South Conference Match on Monday night.
Leading the Cardinals was Brody Deuel with 14 saves. Marco Morales Chavez scored the only goal for the Cardinals off of a saved penalty kick after the ball came loose in the 69th minute of the game.
The C-squad fell to St. Peter 4-1 with their only goal coming from Carter Simmering, while goalkeeper Archer Pomerenke had 13 saves.
The next match is against Southwest Minnesota Christian at Kot fields Tuesday.
GIRLS SOCCER
LaCrescent-Hokah 3, Fairmont 1
LA CRESCENT- The Fairmont girls soccer team fell to LaCrescent-Hokah in a Big South Conference soccer match Saturday by a score of 3-1.
Leading the Cardinals was Kennedy Becker in the first half off of an assist by Frankie Martin in the sixth minute of the first half, while Addie Folkerts had 19 saves on the night.
The junior varsity squad fell 6-0 to LaCrescent-Hokah.
PREP VOLLEYBALL
ST. CLAIR 3, GHEC 0
ST. CLAIR – The Granada-Huntley East Chain Jaguars fell to St. Clair in a Valley Conference volleyball match 25-14, 25-19, 25-22.
Leading the Jaguars was Londyn Bowers with 9 kills and five digs, while Madisen Lewis added three kills and two blocks. Lindsey Diegnau added three aces and five assists, with her Harley Geitsfeld added 14 digs and Keira Benck had 10 assists. Ashley Singleton had five blocks on the night.
The Jaguars next match is against Mountain Lake on Thursday.
BEA 2, MOUNTAIN LAKE 0
NICOLLET – The Blue Earth Area Buccaneers secured a fourth place finish in a girls varsity invitational on Saturday defeating Mountain Lake 25-18, 25-19 and falling to Madelia 25-21, 25-17.
Leading the Buccaneers was Taylor Ripley with seven kills, 11 assists and 10 digs and Taylor Douglas added seven kills. With them Anna Mwangi with four kills, while Laura Steinhauer added three kills of her own. Madison Ehrich had 13 assists, while Madelyn Ferguson had 22 digs and Isabel Vargas added 11 digs.
The Buccaneers next match is Thursday against Waseca.

USC 4, FAIRMONT 3
WELLS – The Fairmont girls tennis team’s season has come to a close at the hands of United South Central 4-3 in the first round of the varsity section tournament.
Emelia Klanderud won her No. 1 singles match against Brylee Neubauer 6-1, 4-6, 7-5, while Alison Slama won her No. 2 singles match against Olivia Bungum 6-1, 6-0. Madisyn Peyman lost her No. 3 singles match against Lauren Hansen 6-2, 6-3, while Ella Wubbena lost her No. 4 singles match against Ivy O’Rourke 7-6, 6-3, while Claire Brockmann and Cailwyn Jobe lost their No. 1 doubles match against Allison Mithiun and Maya Hansen 6-4, 6-2.
Carly Gustafson and Samantha Thatcher lost their No. 2 doubles match against Julianna Clove and Caitlin Rhiengans 6-2, 2-6, 7-5, while Katherine Zelaya and Madysen Tonne won their No. 3 doubles match against Kylee Koziolek and Elise Hanson 6-3, 6-1.
Qualifying individual players will play in the individual section tournament on Friday at Gustavus Adolphus College.
