Area roundup: Warriors softball victors over Lake Mill

NORTH UNION 12, LAKE MILLS 1

LAKE MILLS – The North Union Warriors continued their winning streak by beating Top of Iowa Conference opponent Lake Mills in four innings 12-1 Monday

North Union drew first with three runs in the first, with Lake Mills firing back with a run in the second to make it 3-1. The Warriors then exploded with seven runs in the third, then put the cherry on top with two runs in the fourth. Lake Mills was unable to get back in the game, ending it in four innings.

Brylie Deim went 3 for 3 with three RBIs and one run. Olivia Price and Ainsley Ulrich each had two RBIs and two runs, going 2 for 3 and 2 for 4, respectively. Marissa Nielsen went 0 for 2 with two RBIs and one run.

Pitching the full four innings, Ulrich had four strikeouts and only one earned run on five hits.

The Warriors (19-5) have their next game Wednesday against Estherville Lincoln Central at 7 p.m. on the Iowa Lakes Community College Softball Field in Estherville.

LAKE MILLS 9, NORTH UNION 6

LAKE MILLS – The North Union Warriors fell short to Top of Iowa Conference opponent Lake Mills 9-6 Monday.

The Warriors found themselves giving chase the whole game, starting with consecutive three-run innings allowed in the first and second. After scoring a run in the second, they took a chunk out of the lead with three runs in the fourth to make it 6-4.

Lake Mills then scored a run in the fourth and two runs in the fifth, extending the lead to 9-4. North Union put their last two runs on the board in the sixth, but could not keep the rally going or battle back in the seventh.

Cole Nicoson went 2 for 4 with two RBIs and one run. The game was also Senior Night, and Senior Caden Walders, along with Colin Kruse, Max Merrill, and Wiley Stevens each drove home a run, with Walders and Stevens scoring themselves as well.

In five innings of work, Greyson Colegrove had two strikeouts and allowed only five hits.

The Warriors (7-13) have their next game Saturday, for their first game of the playoffs versus Graettinger-Terril-Ruthven-Ayrshire at 5 p.m. on the Bishop Garrigan High School Baseball Field.
