Boys 4×400 team qualifies for finals

ST. MICHAEL — Fairmont’s Macy Hanson is heading home with a Class AA state medal after her personal-best performance in the 3,200-meter race Friday at St. Michael-Albertville High School.

Hanson took third in the 3,200 at the State Track and Field Championships with a time of 10:53.04. The time was also the junior’s personal best.

The Fairmont boys 4×400-meter relay team of Connor Gronewald, Jaydon Putney, Blaze Geiger and Nolan Schultze also competed in the 4×400 prelims Friday and qualified for Saturday’s finals with a ninth-place time of 3:28.23.

Gage Borntrager also competed on Friday for Fairmont in the boys pole vault finals, finishing 15th with a top vault of 12 feet, 6 inches.

The rest of the Class AA finals begin Saturday morning. Fairmont’s Nelson Remington will be competing in three wheelchair events Saturday, while Oliver Tordsen will compete in the boys discus, Ellie Perkins will compete in the girls pole vault and Ellie Ortega will compete in the girls shot put.
