Cardinals advance with win over Luverne
MARSHALL — The Fairmont Cardinals advance in the Section 3AA elimination bracket with a thrilling 4-3 win over Luverne on Monday evening at Legion Field in Marshall.
In the seventh inning with the game tied at 3-3, Luke Haefner hit a sacrifice fly to score Josh Soelter. It was Soelter’s third run scored in the game, while he also recorded a team-high two hits.
Luverne got out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning before Fairmont turned to relief pitcher Jensen Livesay. Livesay went 6 2/3 innings allowing no runs on four hits with four walks and seven strikeouts.
Fairmont will face Minnewaska Area in another elimination bracket game today, with first pitch set for 5 p.m. from Legion Field in Marshall.
