Blue Earth Area, Lloyd muzzle Huskies, 71-60
BLUE EARTH — Blue Earth Area power forward Ashton Lloyd nearly produced a rare 20-20 performance to power the hometown Bucs to a 71-60 triumph over the Jackson County Central Huskies during Big South Conference basketball action Tuesday night in Blue Earth.
The 6-foot-5 Lloyd poured in 17 points to pace a balanced Blue Earth Area scoring effort, while hauling in a game-leading 21 rebounds. Lloyd also distributed four assists.
Gage Barker contributed 11 points and doled out four assists in the Bucs’ winning effort, while Abram Kokos also netted 11 points on the night.
Max Loge and Austin Skaden each generated 10 points for Blue Earth Area, while Jack Norman supplied nine points and grabbed five boards.
The Bucs outscored the Huskies by a 40-30 margin during the second half after clinging to a 31-30 lead at intermission.
The Bucs made 21 of 47 field goals, including 10 of 23 behind the 3-point arc for 43 percent. The home team also connected on 19 of 29 free throws.
Travis Rogotzke delivered a game-best 21 points to top the Huskies, Erik Hesebeck scored 15 points, while Roman Voss collected a double-double of 13 points and 12 rebounds to complement three steals.
Blue Earth Area (9-5) travels to Fairmont on Friday night for another conference game tipping off at 7:30 p.m. at Cardinal Gym.Martin County West 65, Madelia 30 — Mitchell Weber scorched the Madelia gymnasium nets for a game-best 30 points and the Maverick defense limited the hometown Blackhawks to only 30 en route to a 35-point Valley Conference victory on Tuesday night.
Weber drilled five of the Mavericks’ seven 3-pointers to pace his 30-point effort to go with three steals.
Zach Anderson collected yet another double-double by netting 15 points and grabbing 11 rebounds for MCW. Anderson also doled out four assists and pocketed three steals.
Jamesson Forsberg supplied eight points, three assists and three steals to the Mavericks’ winning ways, Wyatt Williamson pulled down 11 rebounds, while Hunter Schmidt dished out four assists.
Eric Anderson netted 11 points to top Madelia, while Josiah DeMaris chipped in 10 points.
Martin County West (9-8) travels to Cleveland on Friday night.
Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther 63, Nicollet 45 — Jakob Fischer neared double-double territory to steer the Jaguars to an 18-point Valley Conference victory over the Raiders on Tuesday night in Granada.
Fischer collected 16 points, eight rebounds and four steals, while Peyton Franzen generated a double-double of 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Jackson Madsen supplied 12 points and six boards for the Jaguars, while Kayden Loeschen chipped in nine points and doled out four assists.
The Jaguars (7-8) play host to St. Clair on Friday night in Granada.
Girls Basketball
Belmond-Klemme 44, North Union 41 (OT) — The Broncos outscored the Iowa Class 2A No. 10-ranked Warriors by a 7-4 margin in overtime to exit the Belmond, Iowa, gymnasium with a three-point Top of Iowa Conference win Tuesday night.
Addy Lamb tallied 14 points for the Broncos, Caylee Kuhlers netted 12 more and Allison Barrus added 10 points.
Naomi Jones produced 15 points, seven steals and five rebounds to help pace North Union, while teammate Olivia Von Bank generated 12 points, six boards and four steals.
Libby Stevens chipped in eight points and three steals for the Warriors, while Shelby Fraker dished out three assists.
The Warriors made 16 of 40 from 2-point range, but missed all 14 attempts from 3-point distance.
North Union (13-3) plays host to Bishop Garrigan on Friday night in Armstrong.
