Jones guides North Union to hoops victory

FOREST CITY, Iowa — Kyan Jones dictated the Top of Iowa Conference basketball game’s tempo from his point guard position as North Union exited Forest City with a 16-point victory in hand on Tuesday.

Jones generated stellar all-around numbers of 11 points, a game-leading eight assists, six rebounds and three steals to top the Warriors’ 69-53 win over the hometown Indians.

Teagon Fothergill delivered 14 points to pace North Union’s balanced offensive attack, while teammate Aiden Lofstrom supplied 13 points to complement grabbing six rebounds.

Kody Irmiter netted 11 points and hauled in seven caroms for the Warriors, Grady Madden scored 11 points, while Logan Odegaard approached double-double territory by generating nine points to go with garnering a game-best eight boards.

Danyal Fothergill distributed three assists and pocketed three steals for the Warriors, who made 8 of 16 shots from behind the 3-point arc.

North Union (9-5) hits the road to Eagle Grove, Iowa, on Thursday night.

Worthington 68, Fairmont 43 — Zach Hayenga topped a balanced offensive effort as the Trojans coasted to a 25-point Big South Conference victory over the Cardinals on Tuesday night in Worthington.

Hayenga netted a game-high 19 points, Jacari Swinea tallied 15 points, Kaleb Knothe tossed in 11 points, while Mikele Walu contributed 10 points.

Sawyer Tordsen scored a team-best 11 points and pulled down seven rebounds for Fairmont, while Levi Pooley supplied nine points.

Brendan Schmidtke produced seven points and Blaze Geiger pocketed three steals for the Cardinals, who made 11 of 14 free throws.

Fairmont (1-9) travels to Waseca on Friday.

Nolan Schultze scored a game-best 17 points to power Fairmont to a 55-37 win over Worthington during B-squad action Tuesday.

Oliver Tordsen contributed nine points to the Cardinals’ effort, while Brett Williams added seven points.

Tavian Harvey netted 12 points to guide Fairmont to a 59-34 triumph over Worthington during C-squad action Tuesday.

Joe Long contributed 10 points to the Cardinals’ cause.

Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial 86, Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther 68 — Zack Wells erupted for a game-best 25 points to steer the Knights to an 18-point Valley Conference victory over the Jaguars on Tuesday night in Lake Crystal.

Carter Fox collected 21 points, five assists, five rebounds and four steals to top the Jaguars, while Kayden Loeschen delivered 14 points, five boards and three steals.

Jakob Fischer produced 10 points, seven rebounds and four steals for the Jaguars, Jackson Madsen contributed 10 points and six caroms, while Peyton Franzen added eight points.

The Jaguars (6-7) travel to Mountain Lake Area on Monday night.
