Fairmont 12U girls hockey nets 6th straight win

FAIRMONT — The Fairmont 12U girls hockey team swept a doubleheader last Saturday and added another victory on Sunday to extend its winning streak to six in a row.

Mariel Parish and Lauren Bettin tallied two goals apiece and netminder Lexi Sundeen earned a shutout to power Fairmont to a 6-0 Game 1 triumph over Sioux Falls at Martin County Arena in Fairmont.

Halyn Haycraft converted Avery Kurt’s assist into Fairmont’s initial goal before Parish and Lexi Haycraft generated back-to-back goals.

Parish contributed a short-handed goal before Bettin cashed in a pair of helpers from Lexi Haycraft to cap Fairmont’s offensive performance.

Sundeen recorded 13 saves to pocket the shutout for Fairmont, which unleashed 37 shots on net in Game 1.

Sundeen turned away 17 Sioux Falls shots, while Parish piled up a game-best four goals to engineer Fairmont’s 6-0 win in Game 2.

Lexi Haycraft accounted for two goals, while Halyn Haycraft and Kurt chipped in one assist apiece.

Parish netted another hat trick and added one helper to propel Fairmont to a 7-1 road victory over Redwood Falls on Sunday.

Lexi Haycraft lit the lap twice, Halyn Haycraft contributed one goal and two assists, while Kynlee Beemer added a goal for Fairmont.

Kennedy Murphy and Maya Earhart each distributed an assist, while Sundeen netted the win between the pipes with 16 saves. Fairmont blasted 41 shots on goal.

Fairmont (8-1) travels to Marshall on Sunday for a 12:15 p.m. game.

Gavin Kester collected a hat trick and chipped in an assist to steamroll the Fairmont Bantams to a 10-1 rout over Albert Lea on Sunday in Albert Lea.

Klay Beemer contributed two goals and one helper to Fairmont’s effort, while Preston Cepress chalked up one goal and two assists.

Noah Meixell netted one goal and one helper, while Hunter Olson doled out two assists for Fairmont.

Macklain Anderson, Caleb Meyer and Bryce Ihrke each netted goals in the win, while Jase Meade, Dayton Draper and Hunter Thate chipped in assists.

Brandon Hector and Kaden Olson combined between the pipes for 15 saves for Fairmont, which drilled 41 shots on net.

The Fairmont Bantams (2-5) open the Sauk Centre tournament against Lakeville at 6 p.m. tonight at the Sauk Centre Civic Arena. The tourney concludes Sunday.

The Fairmont 10U girls hockey squad went 1-2 to net third place at a tournament in Hudson, Wis., last weekend.

Blaine downed Fairmont in opening-round action, 5-2.

Geminnie Lopez and London Truesdell delivered unassisted goals for Fairmont, while goalie Nola Hazard made 25 saves.

Host Hudson squeezed out a 2-1 second-round decision over Fairmont.

Kenzley Tietje produced an unassisted goal, while Hazard turned away an incredible 47 shots on net.

Alayna Kurt produced two goals to help power Fairmont to a 3-2 third-round win over Eau Claire.

Logyn Luhmann contributed one goal, Tietje doled out an assist, while Hazard tallied 29 stops.

The Fairmont 10U girls team plays host to New Ulm/Sleepy Eye at noon Saturday at Martin County Arena in Fairmont before playing host to Marshall at 3:45 p.m. Sunday in Fairmont.
