North Union’s Meyer hurls perfect game in 23-0 rout

BUFFALO CENTER, Iowa — Emily Meyer utilized her lethal bat and strong pitching arm to power the Iowa Class 2A, No. 2-ranked North Union Warriors to a 23-0, three-inning softball rout over North Iowa on Wednesday.

Meyer recorded seven strikeouts without issuing a walk, and did not allow a hit en route to firing a perfect game.

Meyer displayed her offensive prowess by drilling a home run and a double to produce a game-best five RBIs.

The Warriors erupted for 14 runs during the first, chalked up six more in second and tallied three in the third.

Naomi Jones went 3-for-3 with a pair of triples and one double to drive home four runs to complement crossing the plate three times.

Sam Nielsen produced three hits, generating two RBIs and scoring three runs, while teammate Libby Stevens went 3-for-3 with a HR, two RBIs and scored three runs.

Shelby Fraker went 2-for-2, collected two RBIs and scored once, Maggie Engelby went 2-for-2 with one RBI and crossed the plate three times, while Cassie Beadle went 1-for-1 with three runs scored.

North Union (15-2) plays host to Forest City at 6 p.m. Friday night in Swea City.
