PeeWee ‘B’ hockey nets 2-1 mark at tournament

FAIRMONT — The Fairmont PeeWee ‘B’ hockey team compiled a 2-1 record to net third place during last weekend’s River Lakes tournament.

Axel Chapman generated four goals and one assist to power Fairmont to a 9-5 opening-round victory over host River Lakes on Friday.

Preston Cepress produced a hat trick and doled out one helper for Fairmont, Noah Meixell tallied one goal and one assist, while Dayton Draper distributed two assists.

Hunter Thate capped the goal-scoring performance for Fairmont, while Preston Geerdes, Bryce Ihrke, Luther Malo and Haydn Lillevold chipped in one assist apiece.

Fairmont netminder Kaden Olson pocketed 25 saves to earn the win between the pipes.

Meixell produced a hat trick and Cepress chalked up two goals and two assists in Fairmont’s narrow 9-8 semifinal loss to Little Falls on Saturday.

Geerdes lit the lamp twice for Fairmont, Chapman recorded one goal and one helper, while Ihrke, Thate and Tyler Pankow each distributed one assist.

Olson turned away a game-best 33 shots on goal for Fairmont.

Cepress and Fairmont bounced back to collect a 9-5 victory over Northern Edge during the third-place game on Sunday.

Cepress coasted to three goals and two assists, while Geerdes netted two goals and one helper.

Ihrke notched one goal and one assist, Draper passed out two helpers, while Thate, Chapman and Lillevold chipped in one goal each.

Olson turned in another stellar performance between the pipes by making 33 stops for the win.

Bronze-medal finish

The Fairmont Squirt ‘B’ hockey team tallied three wins and one loss to garner third-place honors during last weekend’s New Ulm/Sleepy Eye tournament.

Fairmont edged Marshall Orange, 4-3, shut out host New Ulm/Sleepy Eye 5-0 and skated past Armstrong-Cooper, 5-1. St. Cloud edged Fairmont for its only loss, 4-3.

Ryder Thate produced a team-leading eight goals during the four-game invitational stint, while Kane Wohlhuter scored four goals.

Bennett Draper found the net with shots twice, while Van Kollofski, Emmett Olson and Eli Meixell doled out one helper apiece.

Icy loss

Windom Blue netted a 6-2 win over the Fairmont Squirt ‘C’ hockey team on Sunday at Windom Ice Arena.

Wyatt Shively scored both of Fairmont’s goals, the first at the 13:24 juncture in the first period before adding one more at the 12:44 mark of the second frame.

Goaltender Kolton Hinz made 23 saves for Fairmont, which posted just five shots on goal.

The Fairmont Squirt ‘C’ team plays host to Worthington B2 at 10:45 a.m. Saturday at Martin County Arena in Fairmont.

One victory

The Carlson Dental Bantam ‘B’ hockey team of Fairmont produced a 1-2 record during a tournament at New Richmond, Wis., on Jan. 15-16.

St. Louis Park rolled to a 10-3 first-round decision over Fairmont on Jan. 15.

Eric Determan collected a hat trick with three unassisted goals for the Cardinals.

Goaltender Brandon Hector tallied nine saves between the pipes for Carlson Dental.

Superior (Wis.) skated to a 5-1 second-round victory over Fairmont on Saturday night.

Jace Meade netted a power-play goal for Fairmont, while Hector recorded 27 saves on the game.

Fairmont regrouped on Sunday to post a 9-3 triumph over host New Richmond.

Determan erupted for four goals and two assists to fuel Carlson Dental’s winning ways.

Tyler Kurt produced three goals and five assists to steer Fairmont to the win, while Meade and Caleb Meyer contributed one goal each. Meade also distributed an assist.

Parker Schwandt chipped in one assist, while Hector made 23 saves to pace Fairmont’s win.
