GRANADA — Senior post player Tanner Sinn produced a game-leading 19 points and pulled down a team-best nine rebounds to steer the Class 1A Martin County West Mavericks to a runaway 59-36 victory over the Truman/Martin Luther/ Granada-Huntley-East Chain Jaguars in Valley Conference basketball action Thursday night in Granada.

The victory allowed the Mavericks to keep their undefeated season alive, as Martin County West improved to a 13-0 record with 13 games remaining in the regular season.

The Mavericks also swept the regular-season two-games series with the Jaguars, winning the county rivals’ first contest, 74-58, on Dec. 16 in Trimont.

“Tanner plays very well inside and out,” Martin County West head coach Cliff Anderson said. “He understands what his role is on the team and can do a great job for us.

“He’s a tough player for other teams to guard because he can hit the outside shot and take it to the rim inside.

The first half saw the Mavericks take control early on, as a 10-point scoring run followed by a 7-point run led to a 34-18 halftime lead which the team would not relinquish.

The Mavericks then put up a 17-point run in the second half to continue their dominating effort.

“We knew that the first five minutes of the second half were going to be crucial to not let them back into it,” Cliff Anderson said. “They’re well-coached and have a nice team, so I thought we came in and did what we had to do in the second half.”

Wing Mitch Weber scored 13 points to go along with pulling down eight rebounds. Weber also proved perfect at the free throw line by going 5-for-5.

Junior power forward Zach Anderson generated 10 points and grabbed three boards for Martin County West, while teammate Owen Runkle led the defensive performance by grabbing four steals on the game.

For the Jaguars, post player Adam Heckman put together a strong performance, earning 10 points and collecting five rebounds, while teammate Carter Fox matched Heckman’s point total of 10 while also claiming four rebounds.

“Anytime you can win a ballgame, it feels good,” Cliff Anderson said. “We’re proud of the guys for going 13-0, we’ll hopefully try to keep it going.”

Class 1A No. 3-ranked Martin County West (13-0) plays host to nonconference opponent Spring Grove at 7 p.m. tonight in Trimont.

The Mavericks return to Valley Conference action on Tuesday night when they play host to the Madelia Blackhawks in Trimont.

Truman/Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain (5-8) returns to hardwood court action Tuesday night when it hits the road to Nicollet for a conference contest.

The Jaguars prove to be road warriors as they make the long drive to Cleveland on Friday, Jan. 28, for another league game.
