WINDOM — Fairmont sharpshooting guard Maggy Totzke and her Cardinal basketball teammates blistered the Windom gymnasium nets during first-round action in the Windom Area Holiday Invitational on Tuesday night.

Totzke buried 5 of 7 attempts from behind the 3-point arc en route to a game-best 17 points to propel Fairmont to an 82-40 rout over the Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg Fighting Saints.

Fairmont (8-1) advances to face host Windom Area in today’s 3 p.m. tournament championship game.

The Cardinals drained an incredible 68 percent of their 3-pointers — 13 of 19 — to pace a 31-for-51 overall shooting performance from the field. Seven different players contributed at least one long-distance basket for Fairmont, who also sank 7 of 10 free throws.

Totzke also pocketed five steals and distributed three assists, while teammate Cadee Becker poured in 12 points — including 10 during the first half. Becker also doled out four assists and pulled down five boards.

Rayah Quiring contributed 11 points to the Cardinals’ balanced offensive attack, while teammate Grace Pendergast connected on two 3-pointers to pace a 10-point performance.

Ava Terfehr also knocked down a pair of trifectas en route to eight points for Fairmont, while Emma Gudahl drilled three treys to pace her nine-point effort to complement dishing out four assists.

Brittney Mosloski added eight points, a team-best seven rebounds and four assists for the Cardinals.

Martin County West 54, Hancock 38 — The Class A No. 7-ranked Mavericks limited the No. 9-ranked Owls to 15 second-half points to pull away for a 16-point opening-round victory in the Russell-Tyler-Ruthton Holiday Basketball Invitational on Tuesday in Tyler.

Martin County West (6-0) advances to face host Russell-Tyler-Ruthton (5-1) in tonight’s 6 p.m. tournament championship game in Tyler.

Post player Tanner Sinn erupted for a game-best double-double performance of 22 points and 14 rebounds to pace the Mavericks’ winning ways. Sinn also pocketed four steals.

Forward Zach Anderson contributed 13 points and five rebounds to MCW’s effort, while shooting guard Mitchell Weber netted 10 points and garnered four steals.

Tate Leiding came off the Mavericks’ bench to deliver seven points, including a pair of 3-pointers during the first half.

Point guard Christian Bachenberg distributed three assists for MCW, which built a 30-23 lead by intermission. The Mavericks then outscored the Owls, 24-15, during the second half.

The Mavericks connected on 12 of 25 shots from 2-point range, 6 of 15 behind the 3-point arc and 12 of 22 at the free throw line.

Southwest Minnesota State University commit Matt Thompson, a 6-foot-7 senior forward, topped Hancock in scoring with 17 points, while teammate Hudson Ver Steeg tossed in eight.

The Owls hit 9 of 20 from 2-point distance, 6 of 23 from behind the arc and just 2 of 6 at the charity stripe.

Hancock (3-2) plays Benson in today’s 4 p.m. consolation game in Tyler.
