Jackson Madsen

GRANADA — Jackson Madsen replaced injured quarterback Kaiden Musser and passed for 115 yards and four touchdowns to help engineer the Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman Jaguars’ 62-16 rout over the Madelia Blackhawks during 9-Man football action Friday night in Granada.

Musser completed 2 of 2 passes for 22 yards and carried twice for 22 yards before suffering a broken leg. Madsen completed 9 of 13 passes to complement nine rushes for 54 yards, including a 9-yard TD, in his relief role.

Running back Kayden Loeschen, who topped the Jaguars’ 220-yard performance on the ground with 98 yards on nine touches, delivered the district game’s initial TD on a 14-yard sprint into the end zone during the opening quarter.

Tucker Grathwohl and the Jaguars’ defense then flexed its muscle by contributing two points to the scoreboard. Tucker Grathwohl produced the first of his two safeties on the game to extend the home team’s lead to 8-0.

Madsen then fired a 6-yard scoring strike to Peyton Franzen before Madsen added a 2-point conversion run to double the Jaguars’ advantage to 16-0 after one quarter in the books.

Madsen opened the second-quarter scoring by crossing the goal line on his 9-yard run before adding another 2-point conversion via a run.

Carter Forez spoiled the Jaguars’ shutout bid by finding the end zone on a 10-yard TD run for Madelia. Jed Altenburg chipped in a 2-point run to narrow the visitors’ gap to 24-8.

Madsen, however, answered the challenge by connecting on a 23-yard pass to Adam Heckman for six more points before Madsen completed a 2-point pass to Jacob Moeller for a 32-8 lead.

The home team then reeled off 16 unanswered points to head to the lockerroom with a 48-8 lead in hand. Madsen zipped a 10-yard scoring spiral to Hunter Grathwohl before the Jaguars’ quarterback ran for two more points. Tucker Grathwohl delivered his second safety of the night before Loeschen ran for his second TD of the game from 20 yards out.

Tucker Grathwohl, who gained 61 yards on eight totes, rushed for a 12-yard TD to account for the lone points of the third quarter.

Moeller then hauled in a 35-yard scoring spiral from Madsen before Loeschen tacked on a 2-point run to open the fourth frame. Madelia’s Logan Slater closed out the game’s scoring with a 3-yard TD run and an ensuing 2-point rush.

Slater topped the Blackhawks’ ground game with 68 yards on 16 carries.

Caleb Benes recovered a fumble and Loeschen produced a team-best six tackles to help the Jaguars’ defense limit the Blackhawks to only 111 yards of total offense on the night.
