Cardinal spikers stop Bucs in 3 games

FAIRMONT — The Fairmont Cardinal volleyball lineup extended its late-season winning streak to five in a row.
Outside hitter Vanessa Bliesmer went 13 of 16 serving with one ace, smacked four kills and made three digs to help guide Fairmont to a 27-25, 25-15, 25-22 Big South Conference sweep victory over the Blue Earth Area Bucs on Thursday night at Cardinal Gym in Fairmont.
Kynlie Anderson distributed 12 set assists, served 9 of 10 with one ace and scooped up three opposing spikes for the Cardinals, while setter Grace Pendergast doled out a team-leading 14 assists to complement five digs. Pendergast also generated two aces with a 6-for-7 serving performance.
Brittney Mosloski chalked up five kills and two blocks near the net for Fairmont, while producing two aces behind 16-for-17 serving. Mosloski also delivered a dozen digs.
Emily Frank pitched in five kills for the Cardinals, Cassidy Schultz smacked down a team-best 10 kills to complement making 13 digs for a volleyball double-double performance. Schultz also recorded three blocks.
Jaya Johnson was perfect in five serves for Fairmont and chipped in three digs, Jazlyn Geerdes drilled three kills, Olivia Ortega supplied 10 digs and went 6 of 6 serving, while Chantel Moeller connected on 9 of 9 serves for two aces.
Liz Beeler doled out seven set assists to pace the Bucs’ effort to go with five points, including one ace, on 9-for-10 serving.
Brita Hougen collected eight digs and four digs to complement eight points behind 13-for-14 serving, including one ace, for BEA.
Haley Kalis doled out eight set assists and went 11 of 12 serving for six points for the Bucs, while Taylor Klabunde contributed 11 digs.
Alicia Machacek smacked a team-best seven kills and registered a team-leading three ace blocks, while Hailey Becker contributed four kills and a team-high nine points on 14 of 16 serving. Becker amassed a game-best four aces from the line.
Fairmont (8-11-1) travels to St. Peter on Tuesday night for another conference match, while Blue Earth Area plays host to St. James Area on Tuesday night.
Blue Earth Area edged Fairmont in B-squad action, 23-25, 25-16, 15-13, Thursday night in Fairmont.
Brylee Miller collected seven kills, distributed seven set assists and made seven digs to top the hometown Cardinals.
Alexa Bush drilled six kills, served three aces and pocketed five digs for Fairmont, while Bre Steuber chipped in seven kills.

Nicollet 3, Martin Luther/GHEC/Truman 0 — The Raiders pillaged the Jaguars by straight game scores of 25-18, 25-21 and 25-16, during Valley Conference action Thursday night in Nicollet.
Johnnie Zaharia went 14-for-14 serving with one ace, recorded 17 digs and smacked three kills to top the Jaguars.
Mallery Geistfeld served 10 of 10 and blocked three opposing spikes for the Jaguars, while Kambria Steinhaus scooped up 22 digs.
Ella Nagorske dished out nine set assists, Hayley Stensland passed out four set assists, Josie Clow hammered four kills and Katelyn Diegnau chipped in three kills for the Jaguars.
MLGHEC/Truman plays host to St. Clair on Tuesday night in Truman.

Luverne 3, Martin County West 0 — The Cardinals coasted to a 25-18, 25-8, 25-8 nonconference sweep over the Mavericks on Thursday night in Luverne.
Lucy Larson and Taylor Elliott recorded three kills apiece for MCW, while Grace Bicknase and Emily Anderson distributed six and four set assists, respectively.
Emily Anderson and Paige Anderson topped the Mavericks’ backrow defense with six digs each, while Bicknase chipped in five.
Elliott and Bicknase each went 7 of 7 serving, with Elliott producing an ace.
Martin County West plays host to Jackson County Central on Monday night in Trimont.
