New Ulm volleyball outspikes Fairmont, 3-1

FAIRMONT — The Fairmont Cardinals outslugged the New Ulm Eagles in Game 1, 25-23, but the purple-and-white clad visitors rallied to reel off hard-hitting wins of 25-15, 27-25 and 25-16 to exit Cardinal Gym with a 3-1 Big South Conference volleyball victory in hand Tuesday night.

Middle hitter Brittney Mosloski cranked five of her team-leading 12 kills to pace the Cardinals’ winning ways in the opening game, while Jazlyn Geerdes and Cassidy Schultz contributed two kills apiece.

Kynlie Anderson doled out six of her team-best 17 set assists in Game 1 for the Cardinals, teammate Grace Pendergast distributed four of her 15 helpers on the match, while Olivia Ortega delivered eight of her 18 digs on the night.

Mosloski and Schultz delivered four and three kills in Game 2, with Anderson and Pendergast dishing out three set assists each to pace the home team’s effort.

Emily Frank, Vanessa Bliesmer, Schultz and Mosloski each connected for two kills apiece to help Fairmont force New Ulm beyond the regulation 25-point plateau in Game 3.

Bliesmer then drilled three kills, while Mosloski and Schultz added two spike-winners each in Game 4 off four set assists each from Anderson and Pendergast.

Fairmont (2-8-1) plays host to St. James Area on Thursday night.

New Ulm downed Fairmont in B-squad action, 25-12, 25-18, Tuesday night.

Brylee Miller went 6 of 7 serving with two aces and doled out three set assists for the Cardinals, while Cassie King connected on 6 of 6 serves and distributed four set assists.

Lake Mills 3, North Union 0 — Ellie Hanna collected 11 kills and went 16 of 17 serving with three aces to help steer the Bulldogs to a 25-12, 25-17, 25-14 sweep over the Warriors on Tuesday night in Lake Mills, Iowa.

Ella Stene drilled nine kills and went 11 of 13 serving, Leah Moen dished out 31 set assists and served 10-for-10, while Brooke Bergo generated five aces behind 17 of 18 serving for Lake Mills.

Anna Longhenry pounded out a match-best 14 kills to top the Warriors’ offense, while Olivia Von Bank supplied three kills and went 12-for-12 serving.

Lily Henderson dished out 12 set assists and was perfect on nine serves for North Union, Libby Stevens doled out six set assists and made seven digs, while Ella Ulrich supplied 10 digs and was 10 of 11 serving.

North Union (10-9) plays host to Eagle Grove next Tuesday night in Armstrong.

Cleveland 3, Martin County West 0 — The Clippers sailed to a 25-12, 25-18, 25-19 Valley Conference sweep over the Mavericks on Tuesday night in Cleveland.

Lucy Larson connected for four kills for MCW, Anna Bachenberg made eight digs, while Taylor Elliott went 19 of 20 serving to complement seven digs.

Emily Anderson dished out five set assists and made five digs for the Mavericks, while Grace Bicknase sent out three set assists.

Martin County West travels to Nicollet on Thursday night.
