Mavericks’ baseball erupts in 3rd to collar Bulldogs

WELCOME — The Martin County West Maverick offense rallied for a 10-run third inning to build a Valley Conference win.

Martin County West collared the Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton Bulldogs 13-9 during Valley Conference baseball action Monday at Fox Lake Sports Complex in Welcome.

Jacob Fiala was one of three Mavericks with multiple hits, collecting a single and a triple while generating a game-best four RBIs.

Christian Bachenberg notched two singles and scored three runs, while Wyatt Williamson knocked two singles, brought in two RBIs and stole two bases.

Kain Sanders added a single, two runs scored and two RBIs to the Maverick offense.

Riley Kascht started on the mound for MCW, pitching two innings and allowing three runs on four hits and three walks, while striking out two.

Sanders came on in relief, closing out the game for the Mavericks.

Sanders allowed six runs, but only two earned, on seven hits and three walks, while striking out four.

Kelton Erler pitched the first three innings for JWP, allowing 12 runs, four earned, on nine hits and three walks, while setting down four Mavericks on strikes. Ty Melchior came on in relief, pitching the final three innings.

Melchior allowed one run on one hit and no walks, while striking out one.

Jack Morsching collected three hits and three RBIs for the Bulldogs, while teammate Cody Gartner had three hits, four RBIs and a run scored.

Martin County West (7-9, 6-1 Valley) travels to Fairfax to face Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop in a nonconference matchup at 5 p.m. today.
