Fairmont boys and girls golf lineups dominate BSC triangular

NEW ULM — The Fairmont Cardinal boys and girls golf lineups swept Thursday’s Big South Conference triangular at Oakdale Golf Club near Buffalo Lake.

Anika Haugen and Maggy Totzke shared medalist honors by carding a pair of 18-hole rounds of 88 to pace the Fairmont girls’ first-place team total of 369, while Alexander Moeller and Jake Harris posted a respective 2-3 individual finish to engineer the Cardinal boys’ winning score of 335.

Jackson County Central fired a 345 to net second place in the boys portion of the three-team competition, while New Ulm finished four strokes behind the runner-up Huskies with a 349. JCC also pocketed runner-up accolades in the girls’ meet with a 404, while New Ulm placed third at 416.

Haugen produced a team-best seven pars, including six on the front nine holes, to pace her round of 42-46-88, while Totzke generated six pars to highlight back-to-back nine-hole totals of 44.

Brynn Gustafson and Solveig Senf carded a 49-47-96 and a 51-46-97, respectively, to garner fourth and fifth individually to pack scoring punch to the Cardinals’ winning ways. Gustafson connected for one par, while Senf sank three pars to complete the team’s counting marks.

Bailey Martinson and Lauren Davis rounded out Fairmont’s first-place performance by firing a 50-49-99 and a 50-52-102, respectively. Martinson made the Cardinals’ only birdie on the par-3 15th hole to highlight her round.

Regan Farmer penciled in an 89 to place third overall in topping JCC’s runner-up effort.

In the boys’ meet, Moeller produced an 18-hole round of 38-42-80 to pocket second-place individual honors in pacing Fairmont’s winning effort. Moeller drained a meet-best three birdies on Nos. 4, 16 and 18 to complement a team-leading nine pars.

Harris finished two strokes off of Moeller’s pace with a 40-42-82 to capture third place overall for the Cardinals. Harris birdied the second hole before reeling off eight pars to highlight his low-scoring ways.

Brock Lutterman netted a share of fourth place with JCC’s Sam Brinkman, while Mathew Cone earned 10th place individually to round out Fairmont’s counting marks on the day.

Lutterman fired a 40-44-84, including birdies on Nos. 4 and 6, to go with five pars. Cone tallied a 46-43-89, highlighted by a birdie on the 10th hole to complement three pars.

Alec Reutzel and Nikolas Flanagan completed the Cardinals’ effort by penciling in a pair of 95s. Flanagan sank five pars en route to a 46-49, while Reutzel netted three pars to pace a 48-47.

New Ulm’s Evan Griebel won the individual competition by firing a 79.

The Fairmont boys team tees it up against host Blue Earth Area, Albert Lea and United South Central at 9 a.m. Saturday at Minn-Iowa Golf Course in Elmore. The Fairmont girls team is idle until facing host Blue Earth Area, Jackson County Central, New Ulm, St. Peter and Waseca at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 18, at Riverside Town & Country Club north of Blue Earth.

Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton 193, Madelia 199 (Boys) — Logan Thell’s medalist score of 39 led the Bulldogs past the Blackhawks during Valley Conference action Thursday at Prairie Ridge Golf Course in Janesville.

Colin Wihlm led the Blackhawks with his runner-up medalist mark of 43, while teammate Colby Wihlm shot a 47.

Collin Tierney carded a 51 and Luke Stensrud shot a 58 for the Blackhawks’ final counting score.

Cole Champlin added a 61 for Madelia.

Steven Dimmel hit JWP’s second score of 44.

Madelia plays host to Martin County West, Tri-City United and Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial/Nicollet at 1 p.m. today in Madelia.

JWP 233, Madelia 276 (Girls) — Kirsten Thell connected for the medalist score of 46 to lead the Bulldogs past the Blackhawks during Valley Conference action Thursday at Prairie Ridge Golf Course in Janesville.

Danielle Gerdts added the runner-up score of 54 for JWP.

Savannah Wyman led Madelia with a 58, while Katherine DeVlaeminck and Katie Bocock both shot 67 for the Blackhawks.

Genesis Robles Moran shot an 84 for the Blackhawks’ final counting score.

Madelia plays host to Martin County West, Tri-City United and Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial/Nicollet at 1 p.m. today in Madelia.

Alden-Conger 184, Truman/Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain 232 (Boys) — Chris Lodahl shot the medalist score of 44 to lead the Knights past the Jaguars in Valley Conference golf action Thursday at Oakview Golf Course in Freeborn.

Ryker Erickson added the runner-up score for the Knights with a 45.

Jakob Fischer led the Jaguars with a 52, while Colby Brudelie’s nine-hole total of 54 was the second score for the team.

Zach Flohrs and Louis Bowers both shot 63s for the Jaguars’ final two counting scores.

Wyatt Luhmann shot a 67 for the Jaguars and Lance Stevens penciled in a 71.

Both the Knights’ and Jaguars’ girls teams were incomplete on Thursday in Janesville.

The Jaguars’ Amber Steen earned medalist honors with a 57, while Alden-Conger’s Emma Kleinschrodt shot a 62 and teammate Emma Morrison carded a 71.

The Jaguars’ Tessa Johnson was next with a score of 73, the Knights’ Emmie Jacobs recorded a 74 and the Jaguars’ Amelia Heard carded an 83.

The Jaguars go to North Links Golf Course in North Mankato for a noon matchup Tuesday with Alden-Conger, Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial/ Nicollet, Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton and Madelia.
