Waseca tennis team slips past Fairmont, 4-3
WASECA — The Waseca Bluejays swept the doubles bracket to pace a 4-3 Big South Conference tennis win over the Fairmont Cardinals on Thursday in Waseca.
Fairmont earned all three of its team points in singles action.
Thomas Klanderud earned the Cardinals a team point when he beat Dohminik Deutsch, 6-0, 6-1, at second singles, while Fairmont’s Jack Hagen earned a 6-4, 6-1 win over Earl Hansen at the third spot in the bracket.
Parker Vetter claimed the Cardinals’ other team point when he eased to a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Tyler Jellum during fourth singles action.
Waseca’s first doubles combination of Dominik Grunke and Luke Osweiler worked to a 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) win over Noah Vetter and Carter Quist, while the Bluejays’ Jacari Jellum and Hunter Supalla earned a 6-0, 6-3 win over Weston Loughmiller and Dominic Lund-May at second doubles.
Ahried Faroog and Oliver Rohwer finished the Bluejays’ doubles-bracket sweep by posting a 6-1, 6-0 decision over Oliver Thedens and Simone Castro at the third position in the lineup.
Charlie Huttermier claimed Waseca’s only team point from a singles perspective via a 6-0, (10-2) win over Ameya Komaragiri at first singles.
Fairmont (2-2) travels to St. James for a 10 a.m. quadrangular Saturday. The Saints and Cardinals face Cotter and Waconia.
