Red Bulls to host Section 3AA team quarterfinals, semifinals

FAIRMONT — The Class AA No. 3-ranked Martin County Red Bulls earned the right to play host to the Section 3 South Sub-Section’s team wrestling quarterfinals and semifinals at Cardinal Gym in Fairmont.

The No. 1-seeded Red Bulls will open sectional dual-meet postseason action against No. 4-seeded Luverne, while No. 2-seeded Worthington squares off against No. 3-seeded New Ulm. Both quarterfinal clashes will start at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 11, in Fairmont.

The quarterfinal winners then lock up in a sectional team semifinal at 7:30 p.m. that night at Cardinal Gym.

In the North Sub-Section, No. 4-seeded Morris Area/Hancock Area/Chokio-Alberta hosts No. 5-seeded Redwood Valley in an 8:05 p.m. wrestle-in meet Tuesday, March 9, in Morris. The winner advances to face North No. 1 seed New London-Spicer in a 6 p.m. quarterfinal Thursday, March 11, in New London.

North No. 2 seed Marshall battles No. 3-seeded United in the other 6 p.m. quarterfinal that night in the same location.

The North quarterfinal winners square off at 7:30 p.m. March 11 in New London.

The North and South team champions then battle for the Section 3 crown and a Class AA state bid on Saturday, March 13, at St. Peter High School at a time to be determined.

The Section 3AA individual wrestling tournament will be held at the Redwood Area Community Center Field House in Redwood Falls.

A coaches’ meeting at 3 p.m. kicks off the Day 1 postseason action on Tuesday, March 16, while the doors will open for spectators (pre-sold tickets only) at 3:30 p.m. that day.

Individual competition starts at 4 p.m. on four mats. The Day 1 schedule will consist of pigtail matches, quarterfinals, semifinals, one round of wrestlebacks and consolation semifinals.

The top four individuals from each weight class will advance to the state qualifier meet on Saturday, March 20, back in Redwood Falls.
