MANKATO — Hanna Geistfeld had to clear more space on her mantle after being named as the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference’s women’s basketball player of the week on Monday.

The former perennial Sentinel All-Area basketball selection from Truman averaged a double-double of 22 points and 10 rebounds during the Bethany Lutheran College Vikings’ pair of victories last week.

The Martin Luther High School alum highlighted her award-winning week by pouring in 26 points on 11-for-15 field-goal shooting during Bethany Lutheran’s 82-56 triumph over Minnesota-Morris last Saturday in Mankato.

The 6-foot senior post player currently tops the Vikings’ statistical charts in scoring (19.5 point per game) and rebounding (8.5 rpg), while scorching the nylon nets on 34-for-49 overall shooting from the floor for 69.4 percent.

Geistfeld, who averaged 20.8 points and 10.4 rebounds per game en route to being selected the 2020 UMAC Player of the Year, earned the league’s weekly honor for the fifth time during her illustrious collegiate career.

Geistfeld and defending regular-season and conference postseason tournament champion Bethany Lutheran (3-1) travel to New Ulm tonight for a 7 p.m. tipoff against Martin Luther College.

Gustavus Adolphus College sophomore forward Caitlin Rorman and the Gusties women’s basketball team improved to 3-0 on the season on the strength of an 81-51 rout over Saint Mary’s on Wednesday night in Winona.

The former perennial Sentinel All-Area player of the year and Blue Earth Area High School standout contributed nine points to the Gusties’ balanced attack that featured five players netting nine or more points in the 30-point win over the Cardinals.

The 5-foot-11 Rorman, who topped the Gusties in scoring at 16.5 points per outing en route to all-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors in 2019-20, currently is averaging 17.7 points per game on 23-for-41 field-goal shooting (56.1 percent).

Rorman and the Gusties (3-0) play host to Concordia at 4 p.m. Saturday at Lund Arena in St. Peter.
