Warriors steal win from Titan girls hoopsters; GTRA boys trip North Union

GRAETTINGER, Iowa — Power forward Olivia Von Bank, post player Sam Nielsen and guard Cassie Beadle combined defensive skills to help the North Union Warriors basketball team steal a Top of Iowa Conference decision from the Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire Titans on Tuesday night.

Olivia Von Bank, Nielsen and Beadle each garnered six of the Warriors’ 31 team thefts, while point guard Lily Henderson supplied five more to deal a 54-25 defeat to the Titans in Graettinger, Iowa.

Guard Vanessa Von Bank connected for two 3-pointers to pace her team-leading 12-point performance for North Union, while Olivia Von Bank and Nielsen each contributed eight points and pulled down five rebounds.

Beadle contributed seven points and distributed a team-best six assists for the Warriors, while Henderson generated five points to complement her five thefts.

Alivia Charlton pulled down five rebounds to go with three points for the Warriors, who connected on 10 of 22 free throws on the game.

North Union sank 20 of 65 shots from the floor overall, including a 4-for-20 effort from behind the 3-point arc.

The Warriors (9-3), winners of four consecutive games, play host to North Iowa at 6:15 p.m. Friday night in Armstrong in another conference contest.

Boys Basketball

GTRA 63, North Union 51 — The Titans netted 20 third-quarter points to help rally from a 31-28 halftime deficit to edge the Warriors by a dozen points Tuesday night during Top of Iowa Conference action in Graettinger, Iowa.

Aidan Fries generated 16 points, pocketed a team-leading four steals and pulled down six rebounds to top North Union’s effort, while Nick Schiltz hit two 3-pointers to help pace a 10-point outing.

Gage Madden scored nine points for the Warriors, Logan Odegaard produced eight points and garnered a team-best seven rebounds, while Teagon Fothergill chipped in six points.

The Warriors made 21 of 54 field goals overall, including 6 of 20 behind the 3-point arc, and just 3 of 5 free throws on the game.

North Union (1-10) plays host to North Iowa at 7:30 p.m. Friday night in Armstrong.
