North Union basketball teams take two from Eagle Grove

EAGLE GROVE, Iowa — Gage Madden delivered a game-high 19 points and grabbed a team-best six rebounds to help power the North Union Warriors to a 38-32 Top of Iowa Conference basketball victory over the Eagle Grove Eagles on Tuesday night.

Madden, who made 9 of 12 field goals overall on the night, netted 12 first-half points to guide the Warriors to a 19-12 lead by intermission.

Tied at 24-all after three quarters, Nick Schiltz hit a pivotal 3-pointer to put North Union back up by four with 2 1/2 minutes left in regulation. Logan Odegaard delivered his only two points with 1:30 remaining to help preserve the victory.

Schiltz finished with nine points, Teagon Fothergill doled out three assists, while Aidan Fries generated five rebounds and three steals for the Warriors.

North Union (1-8) plays host to Garner-Hayfield/Ventura at 7:30 p.m. Friday night in Armstrong.

Girls Basketball

North Union 57, Eagle Grove 34 — Vanessa Von Bank connected on a game-best five 3-pointers en route to 17 points to propel the Warriors to a 23-point Top of Iowa triumph over the Eagles on Tuesday night in Eagle Grove, Iowa.

Lily Henderson produced seven points, garnered six rebounds, doled out a game-best seven assists and pocketed a game-high four steals for North Union.

Sam Nielsen supplied seven points to go with a game-best 14 rebounds and three steals for the Warriors, while Olivia Von Bank netted eight points.

Cassie Beadle tallied five points, while Ella Ulrich and Libby Stevens chipped in four points each for North Union, which has won 4 of its last 5 games.

North Union built a 31-20 halftime lead and never trailed for the duration.

The Warriors (7-3) play host to Garner-Hayfield/Ventura at 6:15 p.m. Friday night in Armstrong.
