ARMSTRONG — Different opponent, same locale, next night and nearly the same results.

The North Union Warrior girls hoopsters experienced deja vu during their 68-19 rout over the Belmond-Klemme Broncos during Top of Iowa Conference basketball action Tuesday night in Armstrong.

For the second consecutive game in back-to-back nights, North Union held its opponent — Belmond-Klemme — to less than 20 total points on frigid 16 percent field-goal shooting and forced 35 turnovers via nearly 30 combined steals/blocked shots.

The Warriors’ half-court offensive scheme also clicked on all cylinders by connecting on 50 percent of its field goals — 28 of 56 — after sinking 25 of 52 shots from the floor during a 58-16 triumph over Northwood-Kensett on Monday. The Vikings made only 6 of 36 field goals overall a night earlier, while the Broncos hit 6 of 37 on Tuesday. Neither the Warriors — 7 of 19 — nor the Broncos — 4 of 13 — however, proved efficient at the free throw line Tuesday night.

“Our next game’s a tough one against (Bishop) Garrigan, who’s ranked No. 2 in Class 1A,” North Union assistant coach Joel Klocke said in reference to the Warriors’ 6:15 p.m. tipoff Friday night in Algona, Iowa. North Union improved to 5-2 overall with its 49-point rout Tuesday night.

Ahead 17-8 nearing the end of the first quarter, Alivia Charlton tossed in a buzzer-beating putback to trigger the Warriors’ incredible 23-1 offensive avalanche to pace a 40-11 halftime margin.

Naomi Jones and Cassie Beadle traded give-and-go roles to open the second quarter for North Union, with Beadle pocketing one of her game-best six steals and firing to Jones for the breakaway basket. Jones then returned the favor by spotting Beadle for two of her 10 points on a fastbreak lay-in.

Olivia Von Bank rejected a Broncos’ baseline shot and zipped an outlet pass to Beadle for an easy basket before Ashlynn Willms interrupted the Warriors’ scoring spree by sinking a solo charity toss at the 5:55 juncture of the second.

Lily Henderson used a slashing baseline drive to fuel a traditional 3-point play before swooshing a regulation 3-pointer for six of her 13 points on the game to widen North Union’s lead to 31-9.

Emily Meyer drilled a trifecta off a Beadle assist before Sam Nielsen utilized a drop-step move in the low post off an entry pass from Libby Stevens to produce two of her game-best 15 points.

Stevens delivered one of her three steals for a layup before Nielsen pulled down one of her game-high 10 boards for a putback basket to stake the Warriors to a 40-9 lead with 24 seconds remaining before intermission.

Henderson’s net-blistering 3 from the right corner off an Olivia Von Bank kickout assist, a Henderson baseline drive and free throws from Nielsen and Beadle created a 47-12 lead and “running time” with less than 5 minutes left in the third quarter.

For a second straight night, North Union’s starting lineup spent the final 8 minutes sitting on the sideline as Charlton generated four of her six points, pulled down three of her eight rebounds and tallied two of her game-best five blocked shots in the fourth frame, while teammate Hanna Sandvig netted five points, including a right-wing 3-pointer for the green-and-white.

Olivia Von Bank finished with eight points, six rebounds and three assists, while Vanessa Von Bank supplied five steals and three assists for North Union.

Jennah Meyer collected five points and five boards to top the Broncos, Allison Barrus scored five, while Molly Hartwig grabbed five rebounds.

Belmond-Klemme (2-4) plays host to North Iowa on Friday night.
