Fairmont Area girls soccer kicks way by Worthington, 12-0

WORTHINGTON — A true team triumph.

Eleven different players reached the goal-scoring column and four more doled out one assist apiece to power the Fairmont Area Cardinals’ 12-0 rout over the Worthington Trojans during Big South Conference girls soccer action Tuesday night in Worthington.

Freshman forward Elayna Anderson produced her first-ever varsity goal off an assist from Hannah Goerndt to open the proverbial offensive floodgates for Fairmont Area. Anderson’s goal — the first of five during the opening 40-minute segment — occurred with 33:49 showing on the scoreboard.

Ellie Schultze, who topped all players by generating four points on the contest, doled out the first of her game-best three assists to set up Maddie Maakestad’s goal near the 19-minute juncture.

Rayah Quiring then produced her game-high two goals in back-to-back style to double the Cardinals’ margin to 4-0. Quiring cashed in Sami Lenort’s helper at the 11-minute mark before converting Allison Janssen’s pass into a net-finding shot 4 minutes later.

Lenort then capped Fairmont Area’s first-half offensive barrage by converting Schultze’s assist into a goal with 3 minutes to go before halftime.

Mackenzie Householder transformed Brooklyn Meyer’s corner kick into a header goal 7 minutes into the second half for a commanding 6-0 advantage on the scoreboard.

Alyssa Wiederhoeft then added her name to the offensive outpouring by cashing in an Emma Scheppmann assist for a 7-0 lead with 25 minutes remaining in regulation.

Kate Busche and Sadie Voss then notched their first varsity goals in back-to-back fashion for Fairmont Area. Kate Busche tallied an unassisted score at the 15-minute mark before Voss converted Schultze’s third and final helper into her initial goal as a Cardinal soccer player with 10 minutes to go.

Schultze then drilled home a penalty kick with 6 minutes showing on the scoreboard, Carissa Saxton delivered a long-distance free kick into Fairmont Area’s 11th goal with 4 minutes to go, while Anna Utermarck closed out the point production with an unassisted goal with 2 minutes remaining.

Cardinals’ goalkeeper Cadence Becker turned away one shot to garner the shutout victory.

Fairmont Area (1-1), which produced an 11-0 edge in corner kicks, plays host to St. Peter at 7 p.m. Friday night at Jeffery Kot Soccer Complex in Fairmont.

Netminder Madi Stromberg made seven saves to help Fairmont Area salvage a 2-2 tie with Worthington during junior varsity action Tuesday night in Worthington.

Kalie Hanna netted the Cardinals’ first goal during the opening half before teammate Alexis Rojo converted Alex Martin’s assist into Fairmont Area’s second-half score.

Brylee Miller erupted for a hat trick and a playmaker en route to six points to engineer Fairmont Area’s 9-0 victory over Worthington during C-squad action Tuesday night in Worthington.

Miller tallied the first of her game-best three goals off an assist from Kat Ogden before finding the twine again off a pass from Maia Goerndt.

Miller then turned playmaker by doling out the first of her three assists to Adelyn Hoye for a 3-0 Cardinals’ lead before Goerndt traded roles and scored the first of her two goals off an assist from Simone Castro.

Miller generated another goal off a pass from Kennedy Becker before Miller exchanged roles again and set up Goerndt’s second goal of the contest.

Miller then delivered a pass to Madi Pluim to extend the Cardinals’ lead to 7-0 before Nicole Zebedee cashed in Kelsey Hunter’s pass for another goal.

Pluim capped Fairmont Area’s point production with an unassisted goal, while goalkeeper Morgan Martinson made four saves to pocket the shutout.
