Martins nip Waconia in state amateur baseball clash

MILROY — Derek Shoen scored both runs, Jon Traetow delivered both RBIs and Collin Lovell delivered a six-hit complete-game gem Friday night to power the Fairmont Martins into Round 3 of the Minnesota Class ‘C’ state amateur baseball tournament.

Lovell struck out six in nine innings of work, while Shoen scored the go-ahead and eventual game-winning run on Traetow’s RBI double in the bottom of the eighth to pace the Martins’ 2-1 second-round victory over the Waconia Lakers.

Fairmont (23-2) awaits the winner between Jordan and Lake Henry at noon next Saturday in Springfield.

Shoen doubled and circled the bases on Traetow’s RBI single in the fourth to stake the Martins to a 1-0 lead Friday night in Milroy.

Ethan Hurn doubled for Fairmont in the game, while Luke Becker, Levi Becker, Blake Crawmer and Shoen each contributed singles to the victory.
