MANKATO — Fairmont VFW Post 1222 went to Mankato for doubleheader action Saturday, winning 6-2 and 6-5.

In Game 1, Landen Meyerdirk and Cooper Steuber combined to shut down the Mankato offense.

Fairmont opened the scoring with a run in the top of the fourth, then Mankato scored twice in the bottom half of the frame. Post 1222 tied the matchup with a run in the fifth, then burst through for four in the sixth to take the win.

Meyerdirk pitched four innings, striking out five batters and allowing five total baserunners.

Steuber pitched the other two innings, striking out two.

Nate Soelter led the Post 1222 offense with two hits, while Carsen Musser added one. Meyerdirk and Levi Pooley each walked twice, while Aden Welcome and Musser each had an RBI.

In Game 2, Mankato East jumped ahead early, but Fairmont fought back to tie heading into the fifth and final inning. Post 1222 then scored in the bottom of the fifth to walk off with two wins.

Welcome and Lincoln Becker each had two hits for Fairmont, while Jacob Crissinger walked twice. Jack Kosbab and Becker each had two RBIs for Fairmont.

Soelter pitched three innings for Fairmont, while Welcome and Brendan Schmidtke each pitched one.
