7th-grade hoopsters play at MYSA

FAIRMONT — The Fairmont seventh-grade Red girls basketball team compiled a 1-2 record at last weekend’s Minnesota Youth Athletic Services state tournament.

Ellie Ortega netted seven points and grabbed nine rebounds to pace Fairmont’s first-round 27-24 victory over Burnsville.

Meredith Nemmers scored eight points, Brylee Miller supplied seven points, while Kennedy Becker pulled down five boards for Red.

St. Paul edged Fairmont in second-round tournament action, 34-32.

Miller poured in 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds for Fairmont, Ortega collected 10 points and seven caroms, while Becker chipped in six points.

Stewartville Maroon then downed Fairmont in third-round play, 46-33.

Becker tallied 10 points, Nemmers contributed eight points to the effort, Ortega garnered eight boards, while Miller added six rebounds.

The Fairmont seventh-grade White girls basketball squad went 0-3 at last weekend’s MYAS state tournament.

White Bear Lake posted a 32-9 first-round victory over Fairmont. Jersey Tungland netted five points to top White.

Rogers rolled to a 35-12 second-round win over Fairmont White.

Hailey Byers scored four points to pace Fairmont.

Buffalo generated a 34-22 third-round triumph over Fairmont. Tungland scored 12 points to top White’s effort.
