REMAX earns four-goal win

ALBERT LEA – The REMAX Total Realty PeeWee B hockey team beat Albert Lea 5-1 in Albert Lea on Tuesday.

Eric Determan and Klay Beemer each scored an unassisted goal for REMAX, while Gavin Kester registered a hat trick. Kester used an assist from Barret Scholl for his first goal, a double-helper from Mack Anderson and Caleb Meyer for his second and completed his three-goal day unassisted.

Tanner Pankow made 14 saves to net the win.

REMAX begins the District 4 tournament tonight in Redwood Falls. It will play Worthington in its first game, with the tournament going through Sunday.

Squirt B goes 1-3 at tourney

LUVERNE - The Fairmont Squirt B hockey team went to Luverne last weekend for the Luverne Blazing Blades Tournament.

Fairmont played Redwood Valley on Friday, with Redwood Valley winning 7-2.

Hunter Thate and Preston Cepress each scored a goal for Fairmont.

Fairmont then fell to Sioux Falls 10-0 Saturday before beating Windom 12-5.

Cepress collected a double hat trick with six goals against Windom, while Axel Chapman registered a hat trick with three goals. Noah Meixell scored twice and Hunter Olson netted a goal. Meixell added a playmaker with three assists, while Cepress and Chapman each had two.

Fairmont then lost to Luverne, 10-4, Sunday.

Cepress continued his torrid scoring with another hat trick, while Chapman added a goal.

Cepress and Meixell each had an assist.

Josh Newville was in net for Fairmont in all four games, but no saves were marked.

7th grade Red wins tourney

WACONIA - The Fairmont Red seventh-grade girls basketball team went 3-0 to win the Waconia basketball tournament last weekend.

Fairmont started the tournament with a 36-17 win over Tonka Black.

Kennedy Becker and Meredith Nemmers each scored 13 points to lead Fairmont, while Carys Gudahl and Brylee Miller each had four.

Miller added a team-leading eight rebounds, while Nemmers had seven and Becker brought down four.

Fairmont hit 16 of 37 shots and made 4 of 15 free throws.

Fairmont Red then beat Waconia Gold 31-6 in the second round.

Nemmers scored 12 points to lead Fairmont, while Miller had nine and Ellie Ortega scored six. Nemmers brought down a team-leading five rebounds, while Gudahl and Miller had four boards each.

Fairmont hit 13 of 35 shots and made 4 out of 6 attempts from the charity stripe.

Fairmont Red continued its winning ways with a 28-19 win over Chanhassen in the tournament championship.

Ortega led the Fairmont girls with 11 points, while Nemmers had nine.

Gudahl and Becker each had five rebounds to lead Fairmont, while Nemmers and Ortega each had three.

Fairmont made 9 of 29 shots and hit 10 of 16 free throws.

3A hockey seeding announced

FAIRMONT - The boys hockey seedings for the Section 3A tournament, starting Tuesday, were announced Wednesday.

With 10 teams in the section, the bottom four seeds will play in play-in games to get to the quarterfinals.

Fairmont Area will be seeded eighth, meaning it will host No. 9-seeded Willmar on Tuesday at Martin County Arena in Fairmont.

Hutchinson ended with the top seed in Section 3A, while Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato will be the second seed.

New Ulm is seeded third, Marshall is fourth, Luverne is No. 5 and Windom is the sixth seed.

The other play-in matchup on Tuesday will be between No. 7-seeded Worthington and No. 10-seeded Redwood Valley in Worthington.

The winner of Fairmont Area and Willmar will face No. 1-seeded Hutchinson in the quarterfinals next Thursday.
