Big third frame helps Martins
FAIRMONT – Eight runs in the third inning helped the Fairmont Martins earn their ninth win of the season against the Lakefield Frogs, 10-5, on Wednesday night at Herb Wolf Field. Joseph Hackett and Nolyn Goerndt had three hits, while Spencer Chirpich, Levi Becker and Ben Abel each had two. Josh Smith got the start for the Martins, tossing five innings, allowing three runs and striking out six. Jack Hested and Jon Traetow threw the final four frames and allowed zero earned runs.
The Martins take on Heron Lake next Wednesday at Herb Wolf Field. First pitch is at 7:30 p.m.
