No. 2 Red Bulls pin way to triangular wrestling sweep
LUVERNE — The Class AA No. 2-ranked Martin County Red Bulls trampled Garretson, S.D., and host Luverne during a nonconference wrestling triangular Tuesday night in Luverne.
The Red Bulls recorded seven falls and received five forfeits to pace a 75-6 rout over Garretson before combining three falls with eight forfeits to generate a 75-3 flattening of the host Cardinals to complete the double-dual meet sweep.
Cooper Steuber triggered the Red Bulls’ winning ways against Garretson with a fall in 4:23 over Preston Bohl during 106-pound action.
Aden Welcome posted a 6-0 decision over Jayse Miller at 113 before No. 10-ranked 113-pounder Kain Sanders moved to 120 to collect a forfeit for Martin County.
No. 3-ranked 120-pounder Lucas Jagodzinske flattened Braxten Rozeboom with a fall in 2:46 at 126 before No. 2-ranked 126-pounder Jaxson Rohman earned the slap of the canvas in 2:25 over Hunter Abraham at 132 for the Red Bulls.
Blake Jagodzinske kept Martin County rolling skyward on the scoreboard by pinning Tayson Swatek in 1:06 at 138 before No. 2-ranked 138-pounder Connor Simmonds needed only 1:17 to pin Dominic Abraham at 145.
Cale Steuber picked up a forfeit at 152 before No. 2-ranked 152-pounder Payton Anderson pressed Parker Schlenker’s shoulders to the mat in 59 seconds at 160.
No. 2-ranked 160-pounder Miles Fitzgerald, No. 4-ranked 170-pounder Nathan Simmonds and Shayne Steinbrink then received consecutive forfeits from Garretson at 170, 182 and 195 pounds, respectively.
No. 5-ranked 195-pounder Jacob Rahn capped the Red Bulls’ scoring with a 50-second fall over Jaden Richter at 220.
Gabe Johnson tallied Garretson’s only points via a pin in 2:09 over Everardo Hernandez at heavyweight.
Cooper Steuber earned another six points, this time via a forfeit, to stake the Red Bulls to a quick lead over Luverne.
Luverne’s Riley Cowell edged Welcome, 9-8, at 113 before Sanders countered for Martin County with a 13-1 major decision over Noah Mehlhaff at 120.
Lucas Jagodzinske received a forfeit at 126 before Rohman pinned Braydon Ripka in 2:47 at 132. Blake Jagodzinske followed suit with a fall in 2:37 over Camden Janiszeski at 138 before Connor Simmonds received a forfeit.
Cale Steuber assembled a technical fall victory in 2:19 over Zach Bradley at 152 for the Red Bulls before Anderson earned the slap of the canvas in 1:06 over Chris Rosin at 160.
Fitzgerald (170), Nathan Simmonds (182), Rahn (195), Steinbrink (220) and Hernandez (285) all received forfeits to close out the triangular.
The Red Bulls (8-0) travels to New Ulm on Thursday night for a rescheduled 7 p.m. dual meet with the Eagles.
