Cardinal girls shut out Storm

MORRIS — Hadley Artz made 45 saves to net her first career varsity shutout Saturday in Morris.

Fairmont Area beat Morris/Benson Area 4-0 in nonconference hockey action to net Fairmont Area’s second consecutive win and third in the Cardinals’ past four games.

Emily Sokoloski got the Cardinal scoring started in the first period when she used a Hannah Goerndt assist to go ahead 1-0.

Joni Becker followed with an unassisted first-period goal of her own. Artz netted a 17-save first period.

Mackenzie Householder scored unassisted in the second period to put the Cardinals ahead 3-0, while Artz maintained her shutout with another 18 saves.

Bella Larson used a double helper from Becker and Householder in the third period to give the Cardinals their winning total.

Artz made another 10 saves to cement her shutout.

Fairmont Area (6-10-1) goes to LeSueur to face Minnesota River in the first half of a girl-boy doubleheader Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
