PeeWees rally for late victory
FAIRMONT — Eric Determan produced both the tying and game-winning goals to cap the REMAX Total Realty PeeWee hockey team’s 7-6 comeback victory over Luverne on Saturday.
Trailing 6-2, REMAX generated four unanswered third-period goals, including Determan’s decisive goal off a Klay Beemer assist with 19.7 seconds remaining in regulation.
Beemer triggered the four-goal string with an unassisted net-finding shot, Gavin Kester netted a goal off a Kegan Roloff assists and Determan knotted the game at 6-all off a pass from Barret Scholl.
Determan, who also converted a Beemer assist into a second-period goal, finished with a hat trick, while Roloff and Caleb Meyer each added goals for REMAX.
Goaltender Tanner Pankow recorded 17 saves to net the win for REMAX.
The REMAX PeeWees open the LaCrescent tournament against the host Lancers at 10:15 a.m. Saturday.
12U hockey splits games
FAIRMONT — The Wyffels Hybrids 12U girls hockey team of Fairmont netted a weekend split on the road.
Luverne posted a 5-2 win over Fairmont on Saturday in Luverne.
Abi Sundeen and Jadyn Musser each tallied goals for Wyffels Hybrids, while Maia Goerndt doled out an assist.
Netminder Ilana Moeller made 38 saves for Fairmont, which had just nine shots on goal.
Musser then erupted for three goals and two assists to power Wyffels Hybrids to an 8-2 triumph over Okoboji on Sunday in Okoboji, Iowa.
Brooklyn Murphy supplied two goals, while Madison Sokoloski, Goerndt and Brittany Lopau chipped in one goal apiece. Sundeen added an assist.
Moeller turned away 10 shots on goal, while Fairmont’s offense recorded 18 shots.
Wyffels Hybrids 12U team plays host to Okoboji at 6 p.m. Friday night at Martin County Arena in Fairmont.
Fairmont then plays host to Omaha at 9 a.m. Saturday before squaring off against Windom at 4 p.m.
