Cardinals host Waseca tonight

FAIRMONT — The Fairmont Area Cardinals girls hockey team plays host to the Waseca Bluejays tonight in a 7 p.m. Big South Conference game at Martin County Arena in Fairmont.

Fairmont Area (0-3) then plays host to the Morris/Benson Area Storm at 1 p.m. Saturday at Martin County Arena in the first half of a girls/boys doubleheader in Fairmont.

The Cardinals boys team makes its season debut against the Storm at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Rorman paces Gusties’ victory

ST. PETER — Gustavus Adolphus College freshman forward Caitlin Rorman produced a double-double performance to help power the Gusties women’s basketball team to a season-opening 84-53 victory over Luther College on Saturday in St. Peter.

Rorman, a former Blue Earth Area standout, neared triple-double territory during her collegiate debut by scoring 15 points, grabbing 10 rebounds and dishing out seven assists. Rorman also pocketed four steals.

Rorman and Gustavus Adolphus (1-0) travel to New Ulm tonight to face Martin Luther College in a 7 p.m. game.

PeeWees 5th at tournament

FAIRMONT — The REMAX Total Realty Fairmont PeeWee hockey team placed fifth at the eight-team weekend Sticks & Slides Tournament in Spirit Lake, Iowa.

Mack Anderson and Gavin Kester each produced hat tricks to help power Fairmont to a first-round 12-0 triumph over the Ames Flyers on Friday night.

Klay Beemer and Lucas Roiger each netted two goals in the win, Logan Madsen contributed one goal and one assist, Kegan Roloff tallied one goal, while Colin Saypativath doled out an assist.

Fairmont goalie Barret Scholl garnered the shutout.

The Des Moines Bucs iced Fairmont in second-round action, 13-2, Saturday.

Beemer scored both of REMAX’s goals, with one assist by Roloff. Scholl delivered a game-best 43 saves in goal.

Redwood Falls downed Fairmont, 7-2, in third-round action Saturday night. Beemer tallied two unassisted goals, while Scholl amassed 34 saves between the pipes.

REMAX rebounded to coast by the Okoboji Blizzards, 9-4, during final-round action Sunday.

Beemer erupted for three goals and one assist, Roloff supplied a hat trick, Roiger tallied two goals, Tyler Kurt distributed two helpers and Kester chipped in one goal.

Scholl produced 39 saves to pocket the win for Fairmont.

The REMAX PeeWees of Fairmont travel to Windom on Friday for a 6:45 p.m. game before hitting the road to Sleepy Eye for a 10 a.m. game against New Ulm/ Sleepy Eye on Sunday
