Jaguars use late heroics to trigger playoff win

EDGERTON — Less than one week after the Edgerton/ Ellsworth Flying Dutchman ran through the Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman Jaguars for 634 yards in a 56-36 win, the Jaguars reversed the script and won in the final minutes of the Section 3, 9-Man quarterfinals.

The upset-minded Jaguars used two fourth-quarter touchdowns to top the Flying Dutchman 32-28.

The No. 6-seeded Jaguars (3-6) move on to face No. 1-seeded and Class 9-Man No. 9-ranked Hills-Beaver Creek (8-1) at 3 p.m. Saturday in Hills. Edgerton/Ellsworth ends the season with a record of 4-5.

With 3:30 left in the matchup and the Flying Dutchmen ahead 28-18, Owen Wolter completed a 9-yard pass to Matt Heckman for a touchdown to bring the game within one score.

Jacob Becker then kicked and recovered an onside attempt to give the Jaguars another shot with only minutes left.
