B.E. Area winless in tournament

WELLS — Blue Earth Area went 0-6 in its own volleyball tournament Saturday, which was played at United South Central because of damage to the BEA gym floor.

New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva took a 25-6, 25-16 win over the Bucs.

Liz Beeler led the Bucs with five assists and served five-for-five, while Maci Frommie and Heidi Herrmann each had two kills. Eloise Blair totaled 14 digs to lead the Bucs’ defense, while hitting six successful serves out of six attempts.

USC then took a 25-7, 25-16 win over the Bucs.

Beeler totaled eight assists to lead the Bucs and added six digs, while serving a perfect seven of seven with an ace.

Brita Hougen had four digs to complement two kills, while Herrmann had three kills and two blocks.

Blair led BEA with 18 digs.

Martin Luther /Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman beat BEA 25-17, 25-14.

Beeler dished out six assists, dug out four spikes and served seven of seven. Blair totaled 10 digs to lead the Bucs’ defense.

BEA split a two-game match with Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial, 20-25, 25-22.

Beeler was the Bucs’ lead facilitator with nine assists, complementing her four digs, while Hougen had seven digs and three kills.

Alicia Machacek had three kills, while Blair led the defense with 12 digs and Miya Gustafson had seven digs and served nine-for-nine.

Maple River then beat BEA 25-21, 25-20.

Blair led the Bucs’ defense with 18 digs, while Beeler had 14 assists and six kills. Machacek and Herrmann each had three kills.

Finally, Minnesota Valley Lutheran took a 25-13, 25-16 win over the Bucs.

Blair had seven digs, while Gustafson and Hougen each had four.

Beller totaled eight assists, while Hougen and Herrmann each had three kills.

BEA (1-21) plays host to St. James Area for a 7:15 p.m. Big South Conference match Tuesday.

The Fairmont Cardinals played a C squad volleyball tournament at Mankato East.

The Cardinals earned second in the tournament.

They started the day with a 25-16, 17-25 split against Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton, then beat one of the two Mankato West teams 25-14, 25-17.

The Cardinals beat Mankato East 25-23, 25-16, then another Mankato West team beat the Cardinals 25-19, 25-20 in the tournament championship.

Jazlyn Geerdes totaled 10 kills and had 22 serves, while Madison Mileham served 25 times on the day.

Anna Ehlert dished out 19 assists and served 27 times, while Olivia Ortega totaled seven kills and 18 serves.

Ashley Bell dished out eight assists, Hadley Artz had five kills and Chantel Moeller served 15 times.

Carlee Graham and Corene Moeller each had three kills.
