B.E. Area mixed tennis duo nets 1st at SJA Invite

BLUE EARTH — The Big South Conference champion and Class A No. 6-ranked Blue Earth Area Bucs tennis team shuffled its lineup for the regular-season St. James Area individual tournament on Saturday.

McKenna Dutton and Macie Stevermer combined to produce a 3-0 record to capture top honors at No. 2 doubles. Dutton is one of the Bucs’ regulars at No. 1 doubles, while Stevermer plays second singles.

Dutton and Stevermer defeated St. Peter’s Josie Wiebusch and Jayna Matejcek, 6-1, 6-0; edged SJA’s Noel Westcott and Sam Tetzloff, 6-4, 6-2; while posting a 6-1, 6-4 win over Emma Seaver and Anna Pavlo of Le Sueur-Henderson.

Ironically, Addison Armstrong and Kylie Rosenau, the Bucs’ usual No. 3 doubles tandem, moved to third and fourth singles, respectively, to compile 2-1 records.

Addison Armstrong lost to LSH’s Makenna Reinhardt in a down-to-the-wire clash, 7-5, 7-6 (11-9), bested SJA’s Sailor Mohlenbrook, 6-2, 6-0 and defeated St. Peter’s Raina Roemhildt in a three-setter, 6-1, 5-7, (10-3).

Rosenau opened with a 6-0, 6-3 victory over LSH’s Mia Schwartz, served a 6-1, 6-0 loss to St. Peter’s Annika Southworth and dropped a 6-1, 6-3 third-rounder to SJA’s Mya Hanson.

Te’a Armstrong, BEA’s regular No. 1 singles netter, and Arika Howard, the Bucs’ usual No. 3 singles player, joined skills at No. 1 doubles. Te’a Armstrong and Arika Howard matched the Bucs’ No. 4 doubles team of Sydney Blagg and Olivia Dutton in compiling 2-1 records on the day.

Armstrong and Howard outlasted SJA’s Jaelyn Haler and Gabby Trapero, 6-3, 6-4; rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 decision over St. Peter’s Ella Boomgaarden and Emily Salfer; and dropped a third-round 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) third-rounder to LSH’s Keely Olness and Chloe Brandt.

Blagg and Olivia Dutton generated a 6-2, 6-3 win over LSH’s Ella Nesbit and Bella Holloway; lost a three-setter to St. Peter’s Rhyan Holmgren and Madison Kamm, 4-6, 7-6, (10-4); while defeating SJA’s Emma Zender and Emma Anderson, 6-4, 6-4.

Cali Beyer, who made the move from No. 2 doubles to first singles, and the tandem of Britt Howard and Marissa Benz each went 1-2 in individual play Saturday, while Lyndsey Borris was 0-3 after making the switch from No. 2 doubles to second singles. Howard usually plays first doubles with McKenna Dutton, while Benz is the Bucs’ regular No. 4 singles netter.

Blue Earth Area (17-1), the No. 1 seed in the Section 3A Team Meet, opens postseason quarterfinal action against River Valley at 4:30 p.m. today at Hal Schroeder Courts in Blue Earth — weather permitting.
