Waseca boys soccer edges Fairmont Area, 3-1

WASECA — The Waseca Bluejays netted the only goals of the second half to snap a 1-all tie at intermission to down the Fairmont Area Cardinals, 3-1, during Big South Conference soccer action Thursday in Waseca.

Jay Lewer staked the Bluejays to a 1-0 lead with a goal 7:50 into the opening half before Kaleb Hoye delivered an unassisted equalizer for the Cardinals at the 13:09 juncture.

Stephen Quintero, a former Fairmont Area soccer player, provided Waseca with the go-ahead and eventual game-winning goal 15:41 into the second half.

Sage Lang then generated an unassisted goal for the Bluejays during the waning seconds of regulation to cap the point production.

Fairmont Area goalkeeper Tyson Geerdes turned away five of Waseca’s eight shots on goal on the night.

Hoye and Daniel Brummond each generated two of the Cardinals’ six shots on goal, while teammates Juan Santana Sanz and Ryan Hennager contributed one apiece.

The Bluejays earned three corner kicks on the contest, while the Cardinals had two.

Fairmont Area (6-6-1) plays host to Southwest Minnesota Christian in a rescheduled noon game Saturday at Kot Soccer Complex in Fairmont.
