Boys soccer game reslated

FAIRMONT — Fairmont Area will play host to Southwest Minnesota Christian in a rescheduled varsity boys soccer game at noon Saturday at Kot Soccer Complex.

The game, originally set for Sept. 9, was rained out.

JV soccer rolls to 13-0 victory

FAIRMONT — A dozen different players reached the scoring column to guide Fairmont Area to a 13-0 rout over Tri-City United during junior varsity girls soccer action Thursday in Le Center.

Hannah Bergt netted two goals for the Cardinals, while teammate Kate Busche distributed two assists and chipped in one goal.

Kaiden Boerner, Emma Scheppmann, Hannah Goerndt and Abby Cihoski each produced one goal and one assist for Fairmont Area, while Selma Bleess, Alexis Rojo, SkyeLi Malo, Alysen Lindquist, Allison Janssen and Lizzie Nielsen each tallied one goal.

Mackenzie Carlson doled out two assists for the Cardinals, while Alyssa Wiederhoeft, Cihoski and Bleess shared goalkeeping duties to net the shutout.

Fairmont Area travels to Mankato Loyola on Tuesday.

7th-grade grid wins 2 games

FAIRMONT — The Fairmont Cardinals’ seventh-grade football team kicked off the season with back-to-back wins Sept. 10 and Sept. 17.

Fairmont shut out Blue Earth Area, 28-0, Tuesday night in Fairmont after posting a 24-16 victory over Waseca on Sept. 10.

Elijah Johnson returned a kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown against Blue Earth Area, while Hank Artz delivered a pick-6 from 33 yards.

Johnson and Artz also scored TDs on runs of 16 and 21 yards, respectively, to pace a Cardinals’ ground game that featured nine different backs combining for 145 yards.

Artz and Johnson each had 100-plus-yard rushing efforts in Fairmont’s eight-point win over Waseca in its season-opener.

Johnson generated a pair of TDs, reaching the end zone from 4 and 70 yards away, while Artz contributed an 8-yard scoring run. Nolan Schultz, Johnson and Artz each produced 2-point conversions for the Cardinals.

Fairmont (2-0) travels to Mankato East today for a 4 p.m. kickoff.
