Jaguars outspike Crusaders, 3-0
MANKATO — Middle hitter Michaelah Petrowiak pounded out a dozen kills to help propel the Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman Jaguars to a three-game sweep over the Mankato Loyola Crusaders on Thursday night in Mankato.
The visiting Jaguars captured the Valley Conference shutout by downing the Crusaders by straight game scores of 25-21, 25-22, 25-18.
Lizzie Oothoudt produced nine ace serves for a second consecutive match to complement six kills, while Jaguars teammate Lydia Steinhaus distributed 28 set assists and paced the defense with 16 digs.
The Jaguars (2-2, 1-0 Valley) compete in the Sleepy Eye Public Invite on Saturday.
Martin County West 3, Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial 1 — Logan Kosbab served three aces, made 11 digs and tallied six kills to help stampede the Mavericks to a 22-25, 25-6, 29-27, 25-20 Valley Conference victory over the Knights on Thursday night in Trimont.
Shaylynn Anderson supplied solid all-around numbers of 15 set assists, eight digs and four ace serves to MCW’s winning ways, while teammate Bella Bicknase dished out 37 set assists and chipped in seven digs.
Gabby Lange and Sami Meyer each drilled seven kills and tallied three blocks, Emily Dunlop supplied five kills and three rejections, while Jenna Clow produced 12 digs and four ace serves for the Mavericks.
Makena Larson added 21 set assists and five kills to MCW’s statistical charts, Olivia Anderson hammered eight kills and Taylor Elliott added nine digs.
Martin County West (2-4) travels to Blue Earth Area on Monday.
New Ulm 3, Fairmont 0 — The Eagles soared to a 25-11, 25-17, 25-11 Big South sweep over the Cardinals on Thursday night in New Ulm.
Bryn Miller smacked seven kills to top the Cardinals to go with three digs, while Natalie Tonne supplied four kills.
Cambrie Anderson tallied three kills, while Madysen Allen made a team-best 10 digs to go with one ace on 4-for-5 serving for Fairmont.
Sophie Johnson garnered six digs and went 7-for-8 serving, Sabrina Segar doled out a team-best 11 set assists to go with five digs and 8-for-9 serving, Andrea Westcott doled out eight set assists, made four digs and went 4-for-4 at the line, while Cassidy Schultz and Jen Moeller added five and four digs, respectively.
Fairmont (0-4) plays in the Sleepy Eye Public Invitational on Saturday.
New Ulm swept Fairmont in C-squad action, 25-21, 25-19, 15-10, Thursday.
Carlee Graham slugged seven kills for the Cardinals, Olivia Ortega went 6 of 8 serving with three kills, while Hadley Artz also supplied three kills to complement 5-for-6 serving.
Waseca 3, Blue Earth Area 0 — The Bluejays outlasted the Bucs in a three-game Big South match, 25-15, 25-23, 25-18, Thursday night in Waseca.
Brita Hougen made 10 digs, produced 10 points on 14-for-14 serving and drilled three kills for Blue Earth Area, while Eloise Blair also generated 10 digs.
Gabby Haaland notched five kills for the Bucs, Maci Frommie delivered four spike-winners, while Liz Beeler distributed 14 set assists.
Emma Langager and Miya Gustafson each scored four points behind 8-for-9 and 8-for-8 serving, respectively, Mari Vargas notched three points behind 7-for-7 serving and Heidi Herrmann chipped in three blocks.
Blue Earth Area (0-4, 0-3 Big South) competes in the Luverne tournament on Saturday.
