Fairmont 14U softball finishes 4th at state tourney

FAIRMONT — The Fairmont 14U girls fastpitch softball team compiled a 4-2 record to finish fourth at last weekend’s Minnesota Tier 4 state tournament.

Fairmont (28-13) competes in this weekend’s USA Northern ‘C’ Nationals in Watertown, S.D., starting Friday.

Chantel Moeller produced eight hits, including a pair of doubles, to pace Fairmont’s offensive performance during the six-game state tournament.

Emily Muller generated seven hits with a double for Fairmont, Nevaeh Rahm tallied six hits, Emma Gudahl drilled five hits including two doubles, Ashley Muller supplied five singles, while Kynlie Anderson chipped in four hits.

Allison Janssen pitched a complete game to help steer Fairmont over Belle Plaine, 7-3, during first-round action. Janssen recorded three strikeouts and walked two in five innings of work to net the win.

Mandy Pytleski fired a two-hit complete game to pace Fairmont’s second-round 9-3 win over Dassel-Cokato. Pytleski gave up three runs, struck out three and walked four in five innings of work to earn the victory.

Janssen hurled a two-hitter as Fairmont overpowered Lake Crystal Black, 12-1, in four frames. Janssen struck out two and did not issue a walk in four innings pitched to garner the complete-game win.

Owatonna Orange doubled up Fairmont, 8-4, in Game 4 of the state tourney. Pytleski gave up seven runs on two hits, walked four and fanned one in 1 1/3 innings. Rahm allowed one run on one hit, walked four and struck out one in 2 2/3 innings of relief.

Janssen then allowed three runs on six hits, struck out eight and issued three walks in six innings of work to help pace Fairmont’s 7-3 fifth-round win over Lake Crystal Blue.

New Ulm Blue then defeated Fairmont in the third-place game, 11-1. Rahm gave up three runs on two hits and walked one in 1 2/3 innings, while Janssen allowed five runs on two hits and walked two in two relief innings.
