BUFFALO LAKE — The Fairmont Cardinals girls golf team made the cut Wednesday to advance to Day 2 of the Section 3AA championship tournament at Oakdale Golf Course in Buffalo Lake.

Fairmont combined to shoot a counting total of 373 to finish third during Day 1 action. The top five teams, plus the top 12 individuals not members of the advancing teams, will return to the Oakdale tee boxes on Tuesday in hopes of gaining the Class AA state meet.

Minnewaska/Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa took first-place team honors Wednesday with a total of 347, while Marshall shot 359 for second. New Ulm finished fourth at 374 and Litchfield became the final team to advance to Day 2 with a score of 378.

Fairmont’s Bergen Senf shot a 7-over 79 to lead Day 1’s individual scorers, while Cardinal teammate Maggy Totzke connected for an 85 to tie for fourth place overall.

Solveig Senf carded the third Cardinal score with an 18-hole total of 101 for 34th as an individual, while Bailey Martinson penciled in a 108 for a tie for 41st as an individual and Fairmont’s final counting score.

Isabell Geiger tied Martinson at 108, while Anika Haugen shot a 113 to round out the Cardinals’ performance.

Marshall’s Olivia Peterson carded the second-best individual score of 82, while New Ulm’s Jana Julia Boquet hit an 84 for third place overall.

Minnewaska/BBE’s Jacqueline Gossen and Windom’s Paige Pigman both carded 85s to tie Totzke, while New Ulm’s Abbey Frauenholtz hit an 86 for seventh overall.

Pigman, Worthington’s Syria Freimuth (88) and Maggie Putnam (90), Morris Area/Chockio-Alberta’s Hannah Zimmel (91), New London-Spicer’s Ava Hanson (94), Windom Area’s Lily Mellstrom (94), Pipestone’s Courtney Kanthak (95), Worthington’s Bailey Weg (97), Pipestone’s Emma Budden (97), Luverne’s Anna Huisman (98) and Pipestone’s Lauren Lapthorn (98), and Jenna Kerkhaert (99) advanced to Day 2 from an individual perspective.

The Fairmont girls lineup contends with Minnewaska/BBE, Marshall, New Ulm and Litchfield on Day 2 of the sectional tournament at Oakdale Golf Course at 9 a.m. Tuesday.
